Tourists from all over the world visit Uluru every year, but for decades there has been a dispute over the controversial practice of climbing the rock - which is a sacred place for Australia's indigenous Anangu people. You don't have to get the whole experience by just climbing Uluru... You can get by spending time with anangu. Anangu can help you by understanding and connecting with the spirit of the country... I think this is far better than climbing but with understanding you wouldn't want to be climb the rock anyway from my point of view.

I climbed it in 1994 I think. If only I knew then what I know now I would not have done so. There's so much more richness in engaging with the Elders and learning about their country from them. I'm sorry for my lack of respect and ignorance....maybe one day I'll return and enjoy it more....because I don't remember much other than rude tourists, me among them. Wow these ppl have patience......when the Elders say enough, you better listen. Well put together btw....very informative and timely story with an important message. Australian ABC could do well to produce stories with this depth again.

The majestic Uluru and the climbing is banned for the visitors. It is way too dangerous to climb Uluru because 37 people had died while climbing Ayers Rock. I walked around it in Australia’s Northern Territory.

Wonderful story.totaly explains things,only now through programs like this that we truely understand the way Aboringals like to live.but haven said that,i lived in Mt Isa for 14 years growing up as a teenager and into my 20s.what I saw with the aboringal people was booze,fights,falling out of pubs,it's even worse now.with petrol sniffing and drugs,stealing,and crime has become a way of life for young Aboriginal's.if you behaved like that while in a tribe way back,you got punished to the degree of breaking their bones so they can't walk.you were put out of the tribe go your own way.but each aboringal had a part to play in surving,if you didn't play your part,it would put the tribe at risk of survival.they worked on stations in the outback etc another story.just hope this program doesn't sugar coat the real way a lot of aboringal people live now days in 2022...its such a shame.but at same time it's nice to see some positive things coming through this show.

my father and I climbed the rock in 1959..there was no aboriginal people within fifty kilometres of the rock...reason being that there was nothing to eat there and nobody wanted to live there....for me at 4years old it was very challenging but the experience was deeply spiritual and I didn't get sick....I think it's just a big rock and if you want to climb it I think you should if it is your spiritual desire...hate to be cynical but if there was money in it they'd let you climb it...betting that will happen.

You have to pay an entrance fee to get in the area of the rock. Now this is a tourist attraction. Off course lots of people wanna climb it, cause it's a part of the experience being there! Not to far away from Ayers Rock... uhm sry, I mean Uluru, is another rock. That one is ok to climb and visit, and also FREE to access... and this I got told by a Aboriginal guide, when I was at the rock in 2011! I asked him why is that one ok to climb but not this one! He replied that he couldn't answer! I replied back and said that people coming here pay a lot, and the Aborginals running the place make a lot of money, and forbidding tourist to climb is hypocrisy and double moral! So you can take our money but not give us something back!? He just walked away! But you know what... go ahead forbid climbing! Heck, forbid entering the area, and lose all that tourist money, and after that we'll have this conversation again!
