You know, burning ivory only decreases supply, not demand. Saturate the market with that ivory and the demand will start to actually drop off as the demand drops and the supply begins to stagnate (it will never fully, but it would probably level out enough for the elephant population to start making a comeback.) But it's not like these people would get that idea.

Is not used to make something esential. Is used to make luxury crap and art. The demand will never drop, because the rich will always want to goods made out of it. The solution is to ban it, confiscate and burn everything, including the art.

Sad that the men in the video are lying about where the illegal ivory comes from- They can care less about elephant extinction. Japan is not a terrible country in general, but culturally, definitely not big on wildlife conservation or animal rights.

In Africa they are complaining that there is no way to get the money to build the much needed elephant fences around the people's gardens ("or else the elephants will die"), but those same complainers raid stockpiles of elephant tusks, saying they are "helping get rid of the demand by burning up the supply" (many African governments are burning their tusks) instead of selling them in bulk to China or Japan, and using that money to build the elephant fences. Make it make sense.
@RonnieOtieno2 жыл бұрын
You do realize that before a country decide to burn ivory they really understand whatever they are doing, and so many people involved? not like you who is just typing on keyboard with no insight of whatever is going on.

I feel the exploitation of animals, for the short term gain of humans inexcusable, I love elephants and do not like to see them killed, if however they die NATURALLY then I see no point in wasting their tusks. But I do not believe that they should be sold only to those who can afford it.
@davidgreen59943 жыл бұрын
So your solution to solve the extermination of the elephants for their ivory, is to make it more accessible to peoples to buy, and rise the demand... brilliant. Not even the tusks of those who die naturally should be traded. Is not going to waste. Is just a stupid bone that is made into non-essential luxury crap. As long as is permitted to be traded and used on the market, someone will hunt down elephants for it.

@arrenoflaedenuar68864 жыл бұрын
People need to stop being so sensitive and foolish. An elephant is just a mere elephant. Imagine a room decorated with gold, garnets, and a ceiling of fretted ivory, backed by silver. Such beauty would only be obtainable with the deaths of a few insignificant elephants, but everyone needs to understand that beauty always requires some sort of sacrifice, and accept that. We were created in the image of God, so that we can dominate and perfect this world, and although we have indeed misled ourselves with computers and all sorts of chemicals, we are still humanity, not mere fools who rage at the simple way of things.

And beauty doesn't mean the death of animals
@SkuldSpookster2 жыл бұрын
Let me tell you something, we don't need Ivory to live, it isn't a necessity. If this vanity and beauty requires such needless death and pain then frankly, I don't want it, in fact, I am disgusted by it. It's also ironic you say that considering Kurzgesagt - In a Nutshell is one of your subscribed channels, and Kurzgesagt does make content about how important Earth's wildlife is, so if you watch them, you should know that an elephant isn't *just* an "mere" elephant. AntsCanada as well, if an elephant is just a "mere" elephant then an ant should just be a mere ant but look at you, having also subscribed to AntsCanada who rightfully talks about how important ants are to the world despite how small they are.
