By the way it just takes a little research to know that this woman does in fact walk the talk; she not only "puts her money where her mouth is" she devotes substantial chunks of her time into learning first hand the conditions, understanding the causes, advocating for the disenfranchised and working to gain access to decision makers and of course occasionally laying it all out in the open as with this speech so that some of you will be moved while others in high places are subtly reminded that the cynical politics of fear will not go unnoticed. You all believe what you want, but she is right, the politics of fear is self serving misdirection. She adopted THREE children from other countries, taking them as her own and freeing them from a bleak future. She has donated more money than most of you could even hope to earn in your lifetime. If their government was capable of taking them in, then they wouldn't be called refugees. The definition of refuge is "shelter or protection from danger, trouble, etc". These human beings are running from terror and want what's best for their children and frankly themselves. They wouldn't be running away just to piss off the surrounding countries. What we need to do is give these people shelter. I don't think the concept that Sharia law will take over the world if the nations divvy up the refugees is sensible. If anything, divvying up the refugees would probably help with the economy and help start more small businesses around the world. A fourth of people on this planet are Muslim. The world, especially in American media, needs to stop vilifying a religion with a very, very small fraction of radicals in it. i am wondering why people are being critical of someone obviously trying to do good in this world. i respect her efforts. Her point seemed to be that we can't individuate. we have to take a world global citizen view for life to survive as a whole. i agree. This is the message the Australian Government needs to hear. Our government for years have been placing all refugees migrating from south east Asia and beyond into prison like camps, on a deserted island in the Indian Ocean. I don't think shaming someone into action is an effective approach but I could be wrong. I think it's more effective how she approached it and ask that ALL nations (hinting to KSA) to come together and contribute aid. Nothing wrong in asking or hoping.

Angelina uses very stunning stats which are a very big problem. She also states that most refugees live in predominantly Islamic based countries. This is true because most are from predominantly Islamic countries. Her argument (3:11) is that we must "address the root cause." This being said, how can we not agree. The root cause is Islamic Extremism and it is also the solution. It is also the reason that so many countries do not want to to take these refugees and assume the financial burden which follows. The key to stopping the crisis is not reforming laws to accommodate the refugees. It is stopping Islamic Extremism! She says much of the problem is politics based on "Fear and Separation." Sounds pretty extreme to me!
