I was in L.A. in 2015 when I first really listened to how little rain they get each year and how long they can go without any rain. A local resident told me this with pride. As someone who lives in the Pacific Northwest I was surprised by his cavalier attitude, as we have regular rain, but also seasonal fires, which can be very destructive and I was almost in shock when I heard six months or more without rain for LA. I don’t think anyone should be surprised this is happening. What is surprising is the billions of dollars invested in an area when the warning signs have been there for decades. People are free to make their own decisions but government leaders hold some responsibility to direct investment away from areas where there is this kind of potential. I’m sure global warming will be blamed, but the planet is always changing (parts of Africa used to have forests where there is now only desserts, the middle of North America used to be ocean, which is why they’ve found fossils from sea creatures on the Rocky Mountains), so there needs to a proactive approach through research and warnings about what areas should be developed and what areas should not. LA is done (as in future dessert), any talk of rebuilding in the area is stupid.

You are mistaken -Mother Nature- "Father GOD" doesn't Discriminate. 14 The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly. 15 That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness, 16 A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers. 17 And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the LORD: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung. 18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land. There is no Forrest there not even in the wild lands. Don’t apply problems in one eco system to another. This is in a coastal scrub area that traditional burns and regrows as part of its ecological behavior. This is stronger and more powerful. It also doesn’t normally occur in January when it rains at least what is rain in California. That’s why the Governor said we now have fire season all year. Cutting the fire department is a different story.

that's capitalism baby. Guess who owns the news stations and newspapers and news websites and social media apps. It's very rich people. So bad things happening to the very rich is far more important to the owners of the news, so it's reported on. And even though the BBC isn't literally owned by rich people, it feels obligated to report on what everyone else is reporting on, or they will be attacked by all the billionaire owned news outlets for it. And also most of the top editorial staff are former Tory party employees or candidates, and most of the journalists running the BBC are privately educated anyway. So it's not like they need all that much persuading. It will always be this way as long as the very rich own everything and use that ownership to control society for their benefit

@@Seek-God-First In the canonical Gospels, Jesus does not specifically mention that "great and notable cities will go up in flames, and others will sink in the ocean" prior to His second coming. However, He does describe various signs and events that will precede His return. In the Olivet Discourse, recorded in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21, Jesus speaks of: Wars and conflicts: "You will hear of wars and rumors of wars... For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom." Natural disasters: "There will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places." Persecution of believers: "Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name's sake." False prophets and deception: "Many false prophets will rise up and deceive many." Additionally, Jesus predicts the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple, stating, "These things which you see-the days will come in which not one stone shall be left upon another that shall not be thrown down." BIBLE GATEWAY While these passages indicate significant turmoil and upheaval, they do not specifically mention cities burning or sinking into the ocean. Some interpretations and apocryphal writings outside the canonical texts may include such imagery, but they are not part of the biblical accounts attributed directly to Jesus.

?? Gotta ask, where did all of the water go that used to keep the plants healthy, and not dried out, waiting to burn... no doubt it did not help that the Swiss owned company NESTLE was allowed to take hundreds of billions of gallons of fresh water, every year, from California's underground water table, (NESTLE arranged to pay California 3 dollars, for every 1 million gallons of fresh water it took out of the ground, all across California, for decades!) The land is like a sponge, when there is no water underneath, then the top dries up fast... thanks NESTLE, and as the supplier of over 75% of the planets bottled drinking water, thanks for the hundreds of billions of toxic plastic water bottles sitting at the bottom of the ocean, for the next 500 years.
@michaeldeierhoi4096
@michaeldeierhoi4096 10 сағат бұрын
Hundreds of billions is an exaggeration, but your point is taken. Far more water is used by agriculture across the state as well as in other states across the country. You ask where the water went, and quite simply it is a consequence of climate change. The growing development and population increase adds to declining water availability however California has lost population in recent years. This part of southern California has been in a severe drought for 6 months. This created tinder dry vegetation so when the Santa Ana winds blew up power lines started to come down which triggered the spark which started the fires. So the Santa Ana winds have come regularly to southern California and never caused a devastating wildfire. It is the prolonged drought that is the problem. That and the fact the above ground power lines are vulnerable to causing a fire when they are blown down.

I'm no genius, but why would building permits be allowed if the potential for fire exists? Seems to me, the county would build barriers to kill potential flame throwers from reaching where people live. Just like building to close to the cliff, and the cliff falls into the ocean.

Many if not most of the fires are caused by downed live power lines. It only takes one line down to start a fire that quickly grows to thousands of acres in those winds gusting to 100mph.

I think in LA most of the fires are caused by homeless people. Cooking or heating a tent while high is not something Smoky would approve of. There were also stories about homeless intentionally setting cars on fire for parking too close to their encampments. And that bridge that caught fire around Thanksgiving. @@santanagonsalves6461 Hi, Australian fire fighter here. If the conditions are as extreme as they appear to be in CA at the moment, a downed power line can most certainly start a catastrophic fire. The worse the conditions, the smaller the spark required. As a rule of thumb, if the value of the Relative Humidity is less than the Temperature in Celsius, then you have got fire weather. eg temp in LA is currently 23c (73f), but relative humidity is 14% = fire weather

Actually these fires have a manmade aspect to them as well. In the first place climate change has caused drought in California to be more severe and more frequent. In the past when the Santa Ana winds came blowing they didn't result in dangerous wildfires that devastate large areas like this one has because drought was not as severe. The second man made cause to this fire is the power lines above ground. The strong winds blew down power lines which triggered the fires.

Fires do happen every year in California, but this is the worst fire in this part of California because of the prolonged drought that made the vegetation tinder dry. The Santa Ana winds come every year, but this is an especially bad drought at this time. The Santa Ana winds likely took down several power lines and because it was so dry all it takes is the sparks to set it off!!

It's like people who make fun of southern cities when they're paralyzed by snow and ice. It makes fiscal sense to have salt on hand and equipment to clear streets in the north.
