Russian soldier death toll hits 50,000 in war with Ukraine | BBC News

Russia's military death toll in Ukraine has now passed the 50,000 mark, the BBC can confirm.
In the country's second 12 months on the front line - as Moscow pushed its so-called 'meat grinder' strategy - the body count was found to be nearly 25% higher than in the first year.
BBC Russian, independent media group Mediazona and volunteers have been counting deaths since February 2022.
Russia has declined to comment.

What bbc is not telling you is that over 80% arent Russian army regular soldiers. Most are wagner mercenaries, chechen fighters, the ukrainian donbass separatists and ukrainian that switched side on top of tartars and foreign mercenaries. The Russian army started fighting in ukrain only last summer, june 2023, when they took over from wagner and stopped the ukrainian offensive south. For a year and half ukrainian got defeated by Russian proxies, when the Russian army entered the chat room last summer the ukrainin literally to this day hit a brickwall .....

500k is estimated killed, wounded, missing and POWs. 50k is confirmed deaths. The real death toll is higher as many of the dead are listed as missing or no one knows they were at the front in the first place (prisoners). Also Wagner and other PMCs are not a part of Russian Army so Russia doesn't consider them as their own casualties.
