SMS relay is an iCloud feature to receive your text messages on different device. Most importantly iCloud backup and restore. Yeah you can wire up to a computer, create a backup, then store it in google drive. But you can’t restore backup from alternative methods directly on device. Apple clearly make it so infuriatingly difficult the average user won’t even bother. Not to mention the never ending onslaught of “iPhone storage full” notifications which never stop, unless you conveniently offload all photos to iCloud in just one tap, or spend hours setting up alternative methods. Apple doesn’t stop anyone from using Google One or Onedrive to store photos on iOS devices by the way. I believe the main reason why people just use/pay for iCloud storage is because it is easier and not really that expensive. Most iPhone users like everything to be run by Apple because of the privacy and security it provides. I know there are some exceptions but for the most part that is why.

What a irrational argument. No one has to use Apple products and, if they choose to do so, no one has to use iCloud. I use both. It’s a deliberate choice because it has simplified my life to use one provider for my devices and for where I store data. I have storage accounts with all the major cloud services, as well as with some smaller companies. Nothing beats the ease of use of iCloud when it comes checking how much is in use and how much it’s costing me. Should I decide I’m paying too much, it’s easy to delete some files or even spread them across several free or inexpensive services. But I’ve learned the hard way what a waste of time that can be.

When someone starts using more than 2 TB of storage for photos then they might probably want to upgrade to a professional camera. Most average and even above average users wont use that much storage. If it gets to expensive that is when I would find a high storage SSD and download my photos from there. Only a professional in general is going to need that kind of storage unless someone is going to use high RAW video settings.

Your advice is rubbish. All of my apple products work flawlessly and seamlessly together. Unlike the horror of Windoze-Android and all the associated devices that don’t work together. This lawsuit isn’t about Apple products, its about their ripping off users with their overpriced lousy icloud service. My iphone 6s plus worked for 7 years before I replaced it. Can you say that about Android phones? I still have my 2012 mac mini which is running Sequoia with a hack perfectly. My iwatch 6 from 2020 is still working flawlessly-Nearly 5 years after its release. My mac mini M1 mac is flawless and super fast. Can you say that about your windoze computers and Android phones? Answer: NO. Only recently did Google say it will support its pixels phones for 7 years and had too because of Apples. long history of supporting its products. So apple products last longer, work together better and simply work great. I have saved thousand of dollars over the years by not having to buy new phones and computers etc every three years when the manufacturer stops doing updates. Get your facts straight before you give nonsense advice.

@sleekitwan11 сағат бұрын
While I applaud any support I can get against big tech, and I have arguments with Apple, I think maybe getting hold of a cheap and reliable enough 4Tb SSD or hard drive, might be the real problem. Or, not having a suitable app that can help me ‘cull’ my photos more efficiently. The bit Apple get right, is their backup and restore. My daughter does this every time she upgrades/replaces her iphone and doesn’t break a sweat. I used to be in charge of backups in a workplace, it was the devil. Never have enough storage, the lines were always going down, the drives were always wearing out…the list goes on. My actual argument with iCloud, is that you cannot treat it as a ‘D’ drive as it were. You really MUST NOT take a bunch of files or a large folder, and sove it over to the iCloud, and delete it from your own device - iCloud fights back, no seriously. This, is my grudge, and as a music creator, I am not pleased as I lost several songs in the ensuing fight with iCloud, which did something diabolical: it kept filling up my PC (yes, you can put your PC on the iCloud system, but don’t I beseech you), and would not stop, and it would fill up my iPad Pro device and not stop there either. The resulting mess, saw me lose some valuable songs, the basic system files, ‘stem files’, all I was left with was a stereo song file. Extracting my PC from the hungry grip of iCloud was difficult too. You might think you could just stop it, you can’t. In the end, Apple have changed their policy - instead of iCloud aggressively eating up all your biggest data cache it finds on your devices, it only goes to 20%. this is bad enough but at least there’s finally a hard limit. The secrecy of these rules, is a cause for concern. Whether this lawsuit addresses these more subtle issues, I dunno. Take care all.
@l2etranger3 күн бұрын
The free storage in relation to the amount of data per file has shrunk so much that Apple has to increase it to be fair and still give the option to pay for extra. It’s an efficient ecosphere for all of its apps to have a central cloud location for seamless access and sharing. Backups currently reach their max just like that and it’s becoming an issue if hardware storage is limited. 🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾
