Immigration "drags down" wages because instead of treating immigrants as equal humans with the same rights, like the baby boomers were treated, because people held views like yours, immigrants were viewed as the dirty, undesirable other, not worthy of protection, and as a result, governments built or tolerated legal and economic systems that allow businesses to exploit immigrants, be it implicitly through illegal immigrants, or more explicitly by holding visas over the heads of legal immigrants. If you give businesses a pool of labour they can mistreat and underpay, well, they're going to do that. It's not the fault of immigrants who just want to improve their lives, it's the fault of the businesses who want to exploit everyone, and the fault of the governments that let that happen. You getting screwed by high grocery prices and the fresh immigrant getting scammed on wages are fighting the same fight, but conservatives have you fighting each other while they and their rich buddies run out the back with all the cash.

Labor shortage??? I was working as security guard with experience of 14 years. Extremely discipled, never came late, always in clean full uniform, during night shifts never slept. My wage never went up with experience. Then came international students were making 1$ lesser than me. Always late, wearing half uniform, barely spoke English, all the time on phone, sleeping at night shifts as they wrre working other jobs too. But employer loved them cause they never ask for raise and they were cutting down overtime=HUGE profits for employer. When i asked for pay raise my manager told me " 20 people willing to do my position for lesser money" which was absolutely true.

Labour shortage? No, people like me decided that getting paid less that $2000 a month when working 50 hours a week wasn't worth it anymore- Especially when housing prices in my tiny middle of nowhere town went from 100k-500k+ during the same period. Dude, you are lucky Germany does not run deficits. Food, gas, electricity, rent did not become costly because of immigrants. They got costly because Canadian government printed money like there is no tomorrow and so did USA. Much money printed in USA landed in Canadian real estate. Grocery supply chains have landed in the hand of few Companies. In Germany atleast there is kartellamt that prevents Aldi, rewe, Netto from raising prices in cooperation with each other. Most Canadian local produce is exported to USA as there is a free trade agreement. As trucking costs in USA have gone up, Food imported from USA has become costly. Canada is Importing US inflation. Mr. Trudeau, can I share two examples of what has happened in my home province of Nova Scotia? The entire staff of the dealership where I bought and continue to service my car was recently fired and replaced with newcomers, who have provided an entirely different concept of service that includes passive aggression, egregious up-charging and misogyny. I am not sure if they are permanent or TFWs but I know that they were brought in through a single staffing agency. I have no doubt they are being paid less than the previous staff. At a favorite fast food location, the entire staff was also recently fired and replaced with newcomers who don't appear to be properly trained, routinely leave customers waiting for 20-30 minutes and tell customers they're in the wrong when they complain (the result: 50-plus one-star Google reviews for this location just in the past nine months). It is not racist or xenophobic to call out the extreme slipping of standards in businesses we have known and loved for years, and to wonder what happened to employees that we've known for years and enjoyed working with. You say corporations are "taking advantage" of the TFW laws. How were they even allowed to do this in the first place? And when will it stop?

This video is testament to how untruthful the current government truly is . I own a small business and we used to use summertime student funding to get a break on wages for college and university students who live locally and this year the funding was cut and we were instead pressured to hire temporary foreign workers directly by the government . The truth is after the pandemic, many workers started taking their power back and "quiet quitting" or leaving the labour force altogether because of stagnant wage growth. The greedy corporations did not want to increase wages to attract workers, so instead, they lobbied the government to hire temporary foreign workers for peanuts. It was a lose-lose for workers (whether Canadian or foreign) and a win for the corporations who could continue to keep wages low, while racking in record profits (think Loblaws, Bell, Rogers - the list goes on). I noticed the reliance on the Housing Market for profit and the growing congestion in our cities from immigration and lagging development. Finding work was stressful. @@truthfuljoe we had flags half mast for a year for false info they created on purpose to create chaos and have our BLM moment too. Leftists burned down over 50 churches in one weekend. Trudeau wouldn't talk to the truckers but apologized to the arsonists and talked to them the next week to give them what they want!
