Glenn nails the point that we should be reminded of weekly: government's lie. As Iraq (2003) becomes an increasingly distant memory, we have to re-remember.

I'm all for hardhitting interviews, but Sackur and Paxman often confuse rigor and objectivity for being obtuse. "Disregarding what you said about the Iraq War, what is your evidence?" The Iraq War IS the evidence.

Respect for Glenn Greenwald, a true journalist who values truth and is prepared to tell it, despite how uncomfortable and even dangerous it may be to do so. Some people are mad at him now because he's stuck to his principles and not been compromised by partisan loyalties. These people need to wake up from the propaganda we are constantly fed, yes the security services lie to us and no they very often don't have our best interests at heart.

BBC needs to be placed under new management, and all the govt. mouthpiece journalists let go and be replaced by real journalists. Perhaps the management of aforementioned BBC could be handed over to the staff and the head elected by the workers rather than some political hack appointed by the govt. of the day.

I listened to Hardtalk’s November 28 interview with Glenn Greenwald. Throughout the interview, Mr. Greenwald spoke frequently and compellingly about “truth”. In his world, journalists’ pursuit of truth is elegant and noble. Mr. Greenwald, however, much like his ideological compatriot Mr. Snowden, misses one essential truth... that the world can be a very ignoble place... a place where truth, however well-intentioned, can harm the greater collective.
@johnvaldata5230
@johnvaldata5230 10 жыл бұрын
trevor deke bajus Your very first paragraph undermines your entire argument. You say that there are "precious few" examples of "government secrecy." That is exactly the point... we do not know because they are, in fact, mostly "secret". You are suggesting, in a sense, that I prove a positive negative. Meanwhile, I generally take a cautious approach in re any government's clandestine operations. I'm old enough to appreciate your references to Central/South America, et al. Clearly, the US has screwed up enough over the years, and that is a concern. But, I am also practical and realistic enough to know that there are nefarious entities on this planet with far-fetched agendas, the realization of which justifies incredibly deadly means to those ends. I wish it were not so. I/we have no choice but to trust those with intelligence insights that we simply do not possess. Lastly, the media has well-documented damage assessments of "journalist(s, or their proxies) causing harm", in this instance, with specificity to the Snowden files. "Single examples"??? They are plenty if you're paying attention and fairly weighing the competing interests. Trust our government? Yes... that's tough given the track record. But, I don't see a choice.
@johnvaldata5230
@johnvaldata5230 10 жыл бұрын
trevor deke bajus Yes - that's my take. IN BALANCE, I am convinced that those covert activities have been far more beneficial than destructive to Western interests. 9/11 happened because we put our guard down. In any event, I don't mind folks like you taking a polar view because you help to keep the conversation balanced. Enjoy your holidays.
