I have 11000 litres of underground rainwater collection on my new build, it has reduced my water consumption by half , it ran out months ago. As contrast I barely dipped into it last year, the lowest it got was 80% full. I think if I had built a 50k liter tank I would have run out too, the ground is bone dry,you could empty a bath tub in one spot and it would be dry the next day. It was full around April despite the whole winter being very dry, but repeated heatwaves and no rain take their toll. My garden is parched, plants dying. Many days I can see smoke from wildfires 50 or 100km away. We should all recuperate rain water where we can, but it isn't always feasible.

More than likely to do with eco activists preventing rural people from their routine controlled burns, it's been brought up in a number of countries for years but nobody's listening, unless you do regular controlled burns the dead leaves will act as kindling and facilitate fires in the future, also doesn't help that much of the green areas of these countries are heavily depopulated and thus there's nobody to maintain the areas, the civil services can only cover so much ground A change of one degree doesn't cause plants to spontaneously combust, this is poor maintenance, poor forest law enforcement and poor lawmaking preventing people from handling the problem themselves when the state is clearly incapable of doing so

The firefighters really are giving it their all against all the odds. What they critically need, is actually more men, vehicles and aircraft. This is its own war in its own right. Wishing everyone the best of luck. I really hope also the riding school and crops can make it for another year.

Not heard it mentioned in the report but the area is full of Lignite, which makes it very difficult to put the fires out. It appears on the surface to be out, but it burns under the surface, and comes up elsewhere. It will take months to fully put out. There is risk of fire pits also, that people can step on the surface and fall in, it’s happened a few times I believe. I’ve been there 3 times now, and have friends who’ve been there much more volunteering. They are working tirelessly. Bon courage à la pompiers et bénévoles (fire fighters are fighting the main fires, volunteers go in after incase of reignition and see to other small fires. Everyone is doing there bit. Volunteers from all over France. At 11:30pm Tuesday, the count was 1000 hectares (2500 acres) by 8am the next day, it had risen to 6000 hectares (15k acres), i was in so much disbelief I had to check with the French group members if I’d misunderstood the report. I left Saint Magne at midnight Tuesday. Looking forward to going back to team up with our group to do what we can.

Yes terrible and kudos to the brave fire fighters, BUT I am a "baby boomer" and can remember very well, that wildfires have always occurred, specially in arid dry areas, like in southern Europe. BUT today the real time information through "smart"-phones and internet, brings all this information into our life's and the news anchors seem to add more "spice" to those events, making each one a catastrophe of apocalyptic scale...well not to forge the quota of viewers! I have been to the region of "ash Wednesday" in Victoria/Australia a few months after the event, all started to become green and lush again, there happen to grow native "iron bark" trees their seeds need fire to germinate and cause new plants.....understanding nature is a good and helpful tool!

In July of 2019 the temperatures were higher than in 2022, not by much admittedly but they were higher and you didn't have fires like this, plants don't spontaneously combust over a few days of one more degree, this is a lot more about governments preventing controlled burns, depopulation of the wild and subsequent lack of maintenance

@@dasrite You don't think there's a cumulative effect of temperature the past decade rising, causing more damage, weakening the flora over years? there's signs of desertification in Northern forests, yes normally a forest doesn't catch easily on fire, when it's properly hydrated I can take a lighter to a leaf and maybe burn a hole in it that fizzles out. But now the leaves are dry and damaged, folded up, If I'd take the lighter now the leaf won't fizzle out, it starts to burn and then the branch and then the rest of the tree.
