President Biden has confirmed he'll nominate a black woman to replace retiring Justice Stephen Breyer.
He said he'll announce his nominee by the end of February. Three judges are considered top contenders: Ketanji Brown Jackson, Leondra Kruger and J Michelle Childs.
Mr Biden promised a replacement with the "experience and integrity" needed for the role.
Justice Breyer will remain on the court until June.

In all fairness to Judge Brown, she has clearly worked very hard throughout her career that she has attained a level of recognition that she is even being considered for the Supreme Court. I would feel that this announcement detracts from all that hard work that I would have put in and quite insulted to be honest. The OP's comment was sarcasm and clearly highlights what some will say if she were to be successfully selected. I.e.: "She only got selected because she's a woman and black..." Whilst Judge Ketanji Brown may very well be a suitable candidate for nomination, it will by this announcement, it always be said by some that the only reason she got to be a member of the Supreme Court is because of her gender and race. It also detracts from the sense of personal achievement that Judge Brown may have if she is ultimately nominated and selected. If I were Judge Brown, I would feel rather insulted to be honest. I believe that President Biden is striving to ensure that those qualified and black (or any other race) have equal recognition. However, by announcing it in such a way, he conversely is engaging in passive racism.
