I'm an Arsenal supporter, but my first ever live match was at Old Trafford in November 1996, United won the match 1-0. What amazed me though was the stadium, the new upper tier over the Sir Alex stand was only built and no upper stands or corners yet at either end. Although it was only about 55,000 at the time, Old Trafford was the envy of England. Those images I see now of waterfalls in the stands and leaks in the roof, the owners should be ashamed. The supporters deserve better than that.

United fans be careful, having the biggest stadium in the world sounds good and suits the ego of us United fans. But it also means once it is complete, the owners / investors will generate money constantly from this regardless if we win, lose or draw. Some could argue this is good as it means guaranteed income for the club but based on how owners of this club have acted with club funds before, it’s more likely the money will be used to build up their own wealth. Too much focus on the outside stuff rather than the actual stadium is a sign that they want this to be a lucrative real estate project with malls and housing rather than just an amazing stadium.
@imo098765Ай бұрын
While that is true, that is also wrong The money the club has spent has been under poor footballing leadership, 1.6bil spent the past 13 seasons but no major trophies to show for it.

Bigger stadium means more revenue which is vital for PSR and being able to buy and attract the best players. The owners should be able to generate money for themselves I.e Ratcliffe (not the Glazers who have bled the club dry). He isn't going to invest 1.5 billion if he doesn't see it as commercially viable and he should be allowed to expect a return for money invested. The only people who invest and probably aren't too concerned about a return are the Saudis, who with unlimited funds are more concerned about sports washing and gaining power and popularity in the UK, where the PL is the most popular and global league in sport
@Amber-nw1snАй бұрын

Call me old school, but traditional stadiums have far more character than modern grounds. There’s something magical about stepping into a historic stadium, surrounded by the stories and memories embedded in its walls. You don’t just see it, you smell the tradition, unlike the plastic vibe of today’s cookie-cutter designs. Old Trafford, for example, has a unique structure and aura that simply can’t be replicated. Sure, technology and modernization have their place, but at what cost? Destroying iconic grounds to build shiny new ones often feels like just another scheme to squeeze more money out of fans, just to pay off the investment and watch millionaire kids run around the pitch. The football circus has spiraled out of control, and in the relentless race for profit, we’re losing the soul of the game. But let’s be honest, that’s nothing new. So go ahead, build it, slap a £100 price tag on each match. The ones who will truly suffer are the working-class fans who’ve been there every game, not the plastics who can easily afford it. But hey, who cares about tradition and local fans when money is doing all the talking?
@DonR-zb2cmАй бұрын
Facts I Love old Trafford still has that magical feeling to it. Just needs some small upgrades but a complete reconstruction is not needed. Ratcliff is a dictator it’s his way or the high way. Already testing the waters with ticket prices going up. And I fully agree once the new stadium is built he will raise the tickets even higher to something like £100. If locals refuse to go it doesn’t matter because tourists will always come for the experience. Fans should be careful what they wish for.

@youngmurphy7556Ай бұрын
@kwl189 It's being developed by Yanks. They don't build stadiums to last so the new one will last no longer than the once state of the art Pontiac Silverdome or Giants Stadium. It's a scam to fleece fans of more money. Typical of the Glazers and their hedge fund creditors. Ineos are no different and only have 25% voting rights anyway. @lanla6838zАй бұрын
A "soulless" bowl, that's funny. Sounds like all the speakers want a stadium with mall shopping and arcade. A "soulless" bowl can be done correctly like Soccer City and Wembley and they are architecturally pleasing, not retail. So-Fi, Bernabeu and Tottenham are just glorified malls. A commercial venue like that is distracting as fans are constantly away from their seats. Its probably better to separate the mall from the bowl, like Atihad is doing with the construction of the hotel
@djturbine7565Ай бұрын
Wembley? Literally the definition of a soulless bowl if you ask me. Sure it has an arch which is visually interesting but that’s it.

@@djturbine7565 Yeah it doesn't get much more soulless than Wembley. Those 2000s stadiums are being left behind now and are looking dated already.
@lanla6838zАй бұрын
@@prappsy I would argue that a bowl is better suited to a football crowd. If united want to build a 100k seater, a bowl is the most practical way to do it. If you go the So-Fi way, you end up with the inside looking like a high-rise building. Too many multi levels of smaller tiers creating a balcony like mall food court atmosphere. The 2000's have the biggest tier being the one at pitch level. That's where you want ordinary people. The only time a bowl feels disconnected (soulless) is an instance where an above tier roof over another tier like at Cam Nou.

£66 for a child ticket, tells you they already have.
@joshyboy333Ай бұрын
@billywhizz5021 aye, that's largely why I said it. We're being treated like a commodity at present. However, if we vote with our feet and make enough noise, by the time the new stadium is built, that may have changed. However, as I said, I have little faith in that being the case. Sadly, the club are more interested in tourists who will spend x amount in the club shop than the loyal fans who are being priced out of attending matches.

Yeah, they send commentators and media people to all the grounds every week of the season too giving all these clubs free publicity. There's this other thing called 'match of the day' which clearly promotes the game of football and all the clubs at the licence fee payers expense! Fun facts... 1) United are not the richest club in England because they are in debt of about £850 million. 2) The taxpayer will not pay for any club infrastructure at all but it may (along with investors) pay partially for development of the surrounding area which creates jobs, housing and boosts the economy and makes far more money in the long run than it costs.
@genghiskhanjunior958128 күн бұрын
Don't be ridiculous, it's news worthy, the consultation process has just finished. People are interested especially locals and Manchester United fans worldwide. Ratcliffe doesn't expect taxpayers to foot the bill but probably wants some of the surrounding infrastructure costs for the roads and transport links etc to be covered by the council as it's a joint venture that will benefit the City economically. It's more than just building a stadium it's the regeneration of a huge area that benefits the City and taxpayers long term. Spurs had similar money from the council towards surrounding infrastructure.

There was many talks about renovations for the olympiastadion, however it didn't go through and with the pressure of having up to date stadiums for the 2006 world cup they built the Allianz Arena on the outskirts of Munich. But besides that, you have a strong point!

It says a lot about the Glazers when you find out that there’s so many issues to fix that it would be cheaper to knock Old Trafford down and rebuild it.

Old Trafford is like the Collesseum in Rome. It is more than a stadium, its a symbol of a city and a team. I live in İstanbul and we have 15,5 million population. It is like taking down Hagia Sophia and building a new and bigger one to pray. I wish they improve Old Trafford not demolish it.

The Santiago Bernabue hosted a world cup final, a European cup final and champions league finals the satdium was renovated not demolished that's why the cost was almost 1B euro but it happened because thoughtout the years the chamartin or the Bernabue has always been well kept for united the only option is a total demolishing and a brand new stadium

as foreigner they speak about fan experience. Yes old trafford do need a new stadium but fan experience at what cost. Local fan experience is also enjoying football game with friends,family at reasonable ticket prices especially for kids and teens every week. Not like american prices of 250dollar in LA Rams stadium on second lvl (exist 5lvls). What is point for local fans,families when they have state of art stadium but they can't go or have to stop cause ticket prices are too high.

It's interesting that the younger fans want to retain features of the ground that have only come along in very recent years or since the Premier League era. I recently saw one of the Fan Cam guys say he wants the White Scaffold roof support recreated to reflect the history of the ground. Well, thats less than 30 years old as is the Tunnel in the corner as one fan mentions in this video. If you want tradition bring back the Red and White Picket Fencing around the pitch, just don't go changing the temperature settings for the Pie warming machine, It's always nice to have a hand wamer that will last throughout the game and part of the jouney home.
@24sumoАй бұрын
Something that happened 30 years ago isn’t recent years I’m 40. Ive had a season ticket for about 20 years. Had no idea the tunnel moved from the centre. It’s irrelevant
@fretbuzz6893Ай бұрын
@24sumo I think you missed the point. Recent years = recent history. Ask someone my age that's been going since late 60's. Been a LMTB holder and ST holder almost as long as you are old. We have a different perspective on club history.

If they're going to build a new stadium, the priority should be to get the highest capacity possible that the infrastructure in the surrounding areas can handle. Morroco is building a 115,000 stadium the largest in the world by 2028 and Nou camp 105,000 stadium by 2026. Cant Man Utd aim somewhere around this mark 106,000 to 116,000 capacity by 2030, let us aim for the top. I am sure more fans attending would be better than less attending but there are fancy LED screens

A new stadium would take my breath away I think it’s needed to be honest but old Trafford stadium will always have special place in my heart all memories will be there regardless of having new stadium I think it’s time to build a new stadium and move with the times let’s make it bigger better and out of this world come on get your act together Jim Ratcliffe let’s get it built now

The dream would be to keep the same industrial style which is part of the history and make it slightly more modern. For me there should be a couple concepts at least, for supporters to vote and then make de decision from that. Take in the opinion of those who make this club what it is

"Man U" 🙄 those pictures of the "leaking roof" were from the Arsenal match where the downpour was so massive the drainage system couldn't cope - same happened at Dortmund during the Euros. I am generally more in favour of new than refurb, but this video has made me re-think that. I'm more tempted now to say leave it precisely as it is!

The stadium was born in 1910.. but not much of it left.. almost everything but the small players tunnel which is no longer in use, were all built in modern times.. so there is nothing much to preserve, historically-speaking, other than the fear of losing the feeling of being in the current Old Trafford stadium.. I felt that whatever magic it had, was gone the moment United tore down the Stretford End in 1992-93 and replaced it with the "West Stand".. so now, it's all fair game..

The current Old Trafford should be kept.For all it's faults it is well connected to public transport and all its seats offer an unobstructed view of the pitch. It could still be an excellent home for Man United Womens Team (rather than playing at Leigh),FA Cup & League Cup Semi Finals & The Rugby Football League's home as both Grand Final & Challenge Cup Final venue.
@nicknewman7848Ай бұрын
Nice idea, but it justs costs more and more money to keep a massive building like that going and you'd then have two stadiums to staff. The attendances for the women are not going to cut it when it comes to the costs of maintenance and staff. You'd only have to pull it down eventually anyway. I'd love for them to strip it back down to a 25,000 all seater, completely refurbed, new roof and modernised with all the heritage kept in place but it would probably cost them over £500 million to do even that. It doesn't make any sense. They're already £850 million in debt.
