Thanks for the upload. I heard this young conductor at the Cadogan Hall/RPO not very long ago give a stunning performance of Tchaikovsky's Francesca da Rimini. Better in fact than some famous conductors who have recorded the work. He should have a great future.

The intermezzo between 22:30 and 24:51 is absolutely new to me. I don't know where they got that from. 🤔

That's very impressive. Who compose it?

@@homunchanful In the first version of the symphony, the third movement does not end where it is usually known, but continues with a Recitativo and a "Tempo dell'andante". Practically an extensive flute solo. That is what you hear in this recording. This section has been crossed out by the composer, for that reason it is never played. Personally, I think that if the composer canceled a part of his own symphony, his decision should be respected, but there are people who, in order to show something different, do everything possible to incorporate even what the composer himself said should not be done. I'm not saying that this performance is bad, but there must be a good reason why a composer cancels part of his work, and that should be respected.

@@mosaiques23 I understand what you say but don't really agree. For instance I see nothing wrong in performing on occasion e.g. Violin Concerto by Sibelius in the original form before he revised it (even though the revision is better) Almost all revisions by composers improve their original ideas but that shouldn't preclude us from hearing their first thoughts. I don't for a moment think of this as being disrespectful.

@@mosaiques23 I agree wholeheartedly. The composer's final thoughts should be respected in a public concert so that the rest of us want to hear what the composer wanted us to hear. His second or third or fourth thoughts ought to be recorded, of course, or studied by musicologists. Poor Bruckner has suffered at the hands of the musicologists. Brahms had the wit to destroy all his sketches, intermediate versions, and any subsequent revisions that he rejected, thus happily depriving musicologists of their meddling. And now we see all the wacky and unnecessary musicologists catalogue numbers appended to the perfectly good composers/publishers catalogue designations. Those numbers may have meaning to academics - at least they get a publication out of it, which, of course gets them academic props.

Really an existentialist question. They were so devoted though "no one" was there.
