on the first hand qc looks like a terrible lead...if you lead a spade...if east had AKQJ then you aren't giving anything away..also if partner has singleton honour again you are winning your 10...so basically no loss by leading a spade.

you lose tempo and the ability to force declarer. When I have long trumps I like to make declarer run out of trumps if possible. Leading a spade is certainly passive and should be considered at matchpoints. At Imps I think the QC seems fine.
