Kuriaki had the COLDEST windmill. I mean... his windmill was FLAWLESS. In the break dance battle in Beat Street he always stood out to me... even before I knew who he was. Kuriaki just seemed a little better, more smooth, a little more polished than other break dancers. Kuriaki is a Legend.

Over here in Scotland, you had a windmill AND a “Kuriaki”- reserved for those B-Boys who could do a windmill using only the power from your legs to flip you, instead of your hand as you rotate across your front...

I started Breaking in the late 70's thru the early 90's, and that's because of the Rock Steady Crew. I built my style around Kuriaki and Buck 4. By doing so I had a ridiculously fast windmill and turtle. Even though I didn't think so, a lot of people in Columbus Ohio felt that I was the best in Columbus. I owe it all to Kuriaki and Buck 4. Thank you for existing and my peace be upon both of you.

This is a tribute that is well deserved, I'm 53 yrs old now but was a breaker n popper in the 80's and Kuriaki's legacy can not be overstated as although tragically taken from this world far to soon, thankfully through Beat Street in particular showed the world his skill and talent as a breaker is recorded as one of the greatest contributors and inspirations to making what is now an established and recognized worldwide form of dance, that also now has become a technical discipline worthy of inclusion in the Olympic Games! Respect n R.I.P. to the legend KURIAKI!

Life is no joke. The Rock Steady Crew enjoyed so much success but they also endured so much pain frm the untimely death of some of its members. I'm frm Strong Island NY and I saw Beat Street the night it opened and those Breaking scenes resonated with me who was entrenched in Hop Hop in my suburban Hood in L.I. But life is hard for Blacks and Hispanics in any hood.. Hip Hop was a escape frm the pain the suffering and the senseless death But for some of us it was only temporary and we gravitate to the streets. in my hood in Westbury L.I aka New Cassel I lost so many friends to drugs Prison Sicknesses and ever other thing we as Black and Hispanics get caught up in. Crazy Legs I'm sure sheds a teat when he looks at old flicks of the RSC. Rest in Power to all the falling B Boys frm REC and rest in peace to my falling comrades frm Westbury L.I. NY who were beating up those Strong Island streets. Kuruki waa before his time. My favorites were him Prince Jen Swift Buck 4 and Frosty Freel. I know my Hip Hop History. That took over the five Boros and Strong Island and upstate NY. God bless Kuruki family and kids and may his B Boy spirit live on.

who do you think saturated the hoods with drugs, once people had found hip hop which essentially costs nothing but meant so much to people at the time, and yes while things were still a little gangster, it certainly helped. Best way to fuck up a hood...get the drugs in...and the rest is history

Kuriaki was the top man of B-Boys in the 80's, I can recall the windmills being the hardest to achieve. Everybody had their own move they was good at. Back in them days the young generation of Hip-Hop was taking the world by storm. Scratchers, burners, poppers, top rockers, breakers. New crews forming and challenging each other. The moves were so difficult to accomplish in them days. If your moves was of high standard you was soon recognized and word soon went round. When Beat street came out in 1984 the Rock Steady crew and New York City breakers were on top of their game, being know as the best in the world. Kuriaki's windmills were so flawless and so smooth. Watching this tribute you can see how advanced the man was of his time. He was just so awesome. B-Boys of today who have become so advanced over the last 30 years when watch this tribute should respect the era and respect Kuriaki how breakin was back in them days. RIP Kuriaki "windmill king"

I knew Kuriaki was dope but man, as far as 80s power goes he had it all. That one armed entry into windmill is sick. Really too bad that he died so young which then led to there not being too much footage of him, I could watch a 30 minute clip of this stuff. Who was the Rams player, Jack Youngblood? My man was lit like a Christmas tree. RIP Kuriaki and Buck 4, legends never die.

In the early 1980s I had cousins who lived in Belgium and France, and when they came to visit me one Christmas ('83) I planned to amazed them with this NYC phenomenon called Breakdancing. Imagine how shocked (and jealous) I felt when I showed they were better break-dancers than me!?! They even had European magazines about breakdancers!! I was embarrassed but I begged them to teach me some moves. We must have broken 3 lamps and 2 vases in my mothers living room apartment practicing break moves that Christmas holiday!!!!!! Nice to see others share my opinion:) Kuriaki is a total legend and for me was the stand out performer of that early 80s era when bboying exploded globally. Looking back I was very lucky to have been a teenager then and experienced the "rush" of that era...Everyday was just a buzz - seeing bboys everywhere doing their thing and loking for the latest moves, hearing the latest electro track, checking out the latest sports fashion and style...I didn't need money, women, substances...I was just high on life and living then...great days that will never come back.

I wonder what he would be like if he lived, and what he was like back then. He seemed like a really sweet lovable boy with a great smile. One of hip hop's great pioneers. Forever a Legend

he would have been seen as a total legend nowadays I think as he was way ahead of his time back in the early 80s...he was easily the best bboy in RSC and one of the originators of the so called powermoves...
