These videos are absolutely fantastic. That solution pit looks interesting. Might be a good alternative to the ever increasing prices of the workhorse pit.

I have the LSG 24x60 with all the bells and whistles. The smoker cooks like a dream. Main thing is to set the tuning plates.
@trevorbraden5448Ай бұрын
My offset came with a charcoal grate that is curved and a solid piece of steal the runs all the way across the bottom...... when I first bought I watched some videos on that model and people take that plate and turn it upside-down, and it works flawlessly as one big tuning plate.... you slide it all the way over next to the fire box with about a 1/4 inch gap and the heat runs all the way through the bottom and out the stack side..... but man my grill runs even temps top to bottom no fluctuations anywhere in the entire grill...... I was about to buy tuning plates and baffles until I seen that video..... got lucky it was included and saved a chunk of money

I’ve had an Outlaw Patio for the past 4 years. GREAT cooker!
@HansenMath8 ай бұрын
Do you get enough smoke flavor on the outlaw? I've read a lot of mixed reviews, due to how clean it burns and how it prefers higher temps.
@barbruhque8 ай бұрын
I do. You can always choke the air intake slightly to make it not run as clean. And with moving the coal basket closer to, or further away from the cook chamber, I can adjust the temps as much as 50 degrees. Does it like to run at 275-300 yes? Can I make it run 225-250, absolutely. It’s all about learning your cooker. Another note, biscuit test has shown even cooking throughout the entirety of the cooking grate up to 2” from the baffle.

Exactly, smoking dirty is way easier than keeping clean smoke

@@barbruhqueIt has a heat baffle on bottom? Does it tend to over cook the bottom side of the meats?
@barbruhque7 ай бұрын
@@mannyr8795 no heat baffle. The opening is angled and cooks evenly. If anything, the top of the proteins may cook faster. But not a noticeable difference.

I have the LSG 20x36 with the fire management basket, which makes for a great coal bed. The temps are very close across the grate.

How about move the firebox up & let the glasses travel directly into the top of the cook chamber? Why offset at all?

The thing that always blows my mind is this: as someone in the market to potentially purchase a $3k, $4k, or even $5k smoker, trying to get more than three photos of a pit can be difficult. Most manufacturers post two or three and call it a day. Is it just me, or should we be able to see several pics inside and out? Maybe it's just me...

I think Lone Star addressed the square body firebox, with the add-on of the fire management basket. The "V" shape of it, does mimic that of a round body firebox, without losing the ability to grill in it or use the skillet. I suppose that is the compromise.

@SwineLifeBBQ I've seen your videos cooking on the Outlaw Patio, which are great! Can you get a good smoke flavor on the Outlaw Patio? It looks so efficient that I'm wondering if that also equates to not a lot of smoke flavor. Thoughts?
@SwineLifeBBQ4 ай бұрын
@@ScienceGuyRoy all of the outlaws are super efficient and easy to run. With them being so efficient, this give you the pit master the opportunity to control the fire and smoke just how you want to. You definitely can get plenty of smoke just by wood placement in the firebox or moisture content of the wood.

True Bomb smoker completely changes the scene with his idea and gets even temps across the entire grate. Also, unrelated question, do you know of any offset builders in Florida?
@SmokeMasterD7 ай бұрын
I think there might have been one in the episode I made cataloging all the builders in America and Canada, but that's been years ago. No one really well known. There are builders like Stumps on south Georgia and Shirley Fabrication in Alabama that might be close.

On my 48" Texas Edition the upper grate runs just under 100 degrees hotter than the main grate when the main is running around 250. As to your preference for round fire box producing a better coal bed than the flat bottom my guess would be you've never used the fire management basket. That basket produces a very good coal bed when managed correctly, and benefits from having air flow from the bottom as well as top and sides. But, I've seen comments from some folks who just dislike it for whatever reasons............perhaps resistance to change.
@SmokeMasterD8 ай бұрын
I actually bought an lsg firebasket. It's not that I dislike it per-se. I just prefer building my fire on the bottom. I feel like it gives me more control over the coal bed itself. If people like using the basket, I don't begrudge them that preference. I just like the other way better.
