For the last email, I've made similar mistake where I introduced 50-year-old Pakistani men among modern Desi community, that dude started flirting with the women (they were all married and came with their husbands), asked weird question and made them uncomfortable. It was so embarrassing for me, but lesson learned the hard way, from now on, I do not invite people with typical desi mindset with western educated people, lets keep them separate.

While Diwali does contribute to a temporary spike in air and noise pollution, it's clear that these two days alone aren't responsible for the smog levels seen in winter. The primary polluters are threefold: visible sources like stubble burning in the northern wheat belt; ongoing sources such as construction and heavy industry, which release PM2.5 particles throughout the year; and, most critically, poor urban planning that fails to consider geography. Northern India's plains, bordered by the Himalayas to the north and the Deccan plateau to the south, lack nearby seas to help dissipate pollution, effectively trapping polluted air in urban centers. Cities like London and Beijing had to implement extensive reforms to address similar challenges.

11:44 on Diwali take as an Indian I want to say that statistically fire crackers contribute a lot less to smog issue and its effect is visible only for the next few days, in Delhi our AQI already touched 300 before Diwali . As kid I myself restrained from bursting firecrackers for 2 years but the smog just kept getting worse ,later I studied and found in Delhi at least Cars and firecrackers contribute less to smog and since than I was like " Why should I restrain myself from joy when it is the gov incompetence at play?"

Yeah it’s like that plastic straw example Starbucks CEO travels in a jet to work and industries dump chemicals to kill marine life But average folks are expected to use paper straws at cafés to “save the environment “
@kickassguy70415 күн бұрын
Yes firecrackers add to smog and leads to spike in AQI for a couple of days but it’s a small percentage. Reason is that most of the firecrackers are burst only at night and that too for limited time period. Moreover, in terms of pollution, a study by IIT Delhi has shown that for bad AQI, construction and coal plants are a big factor , followed by vehicular and industrial smoke. Stubble burning becomes the highest contributor in the winter months. North India and Pakistan being far from ocean don’t have the reprieve of land and sea breeze system which constantly circulates the air. In terms of legislation, it is upto the State High Courts to issue directions. For example, the Delhi high court had banned lighting of firecrackers in Diwali but the order couldn’t be effectively implemented which led to a spike of around +100 AQI points a day after Diwali. A lot of people were fined by Delhi police for bursting firecrackers but they can’t fine each and every one. The spike remained for just a couple of days post which it fell down from its peak (it’s still terrible though).

For the geography question, I highly recommend that you read the book "Why Nations Fail" by Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson, or atleast a summary of that. Shortly, it is not geography, it is infact the way the institutions are designed and laid down, and the resultant virtuous/vicious circles that emerge from their intentional design. Regions with identical geographic locations, environmental conditions, natural resources, population size, etc. can have completely divergent economic and political outcomes. Infact, the institutions/ the powers that be must be inclusive rather than extractive in nature for a region to be prosperous. They have won the noble prize in 2024 for this work. So, highly recommended.

For Hamza: He should speak up about this to his dad, respectfully but he should. His father needs to understand that what he did was not okay. He needs to understand the customs of the country he is visiting just like he would expect the people who visit his country to understand and respect his customs. And he needs to understand that he can not just disrespect people on the basis of their religion. Maybe he thinks that giving Dawah is not being disrespectful but it is. The way he did that was disrespectful. If Hamza wants his father to keep visiting, then his father needs to respect the country and people hosting him.

At 32.45 you mention Jai Hind. Mostly in a secular country govt/ law enforcement and defense personel use this phrase. The other thing is since the majority of Indians are non-Muslim why would they say Khuda Hafiz ? Even Muslims who serve in the defense forces and law enforcement say Jai Hind. Civilians use whatever they want. I think for India being a secular country religious greetings have no value in govt/LEO/Defense positions. Indians have more pride in their country and on a majority basis are patriotic, Hope that makes sense. Coming to languages Sindhi is also almost extinct in Sindh, is it being taught in universities, allowed in parliament, valued as an important regional state language?

22:21 One of the most famous stories of bullying comes from the life of J.K. Rowling, the author of the Harry Potter series. As a child and teenager, Rowling faced bullying from peers who mocked her for being quiet, bookish, and imaginative. She often felt like an outsider, which inspired her to create characters like Harry Potter, who himself deals with bullying from his cousin Dudley and classmates at school. Rowling used her painful experiences to fuel her storytelling, weaving themes of resilience, compassion, and standing up against bullying throughout the Harry Potter books. The lesson here is powerful: rather than letting bullying define her, Rowling transformed her struggles into a creative force that connected with millions of people. Her story shows that, while bullying is hurtful, it doesn’t have to dictate your path.

hello Junaid Bhai . I love your podcasts.♥♥ Yes Diwali contributes to pollution which is temporary spike but it happens when there is already a lot of pollution present in atmosphere. Recently your government said pollution is coming from India but to be exact when you see wind pattern during winters the air moves from Pakistan toward India which is natural phenomena. India doesn't have any national language and we do not force any language upon anyone. We keep our nation above our religion so we say Jai Hind. China worked very hard to control their air pollution + they can dictate people and force them to follow things but in India government cannot force if there is too much interference people change the government so they don't touch it. Though pollution is necessary to control but people are not coming together. Shanghai and Beijing were some of most polluted cities just some time ago (2012-2017). Yes Indian muslims and Pakistani muslims are different. Indian muslims don't generally try to convert though Indians in general are open to conversion. Hindus don't convert our culture was fluid everyone was everything but as time passed and with advent of christianity and documentation they started to segregate one another. We don't like people who try to convert using false promises and giving monetary benefits. Because there is lots of funding there are schools who teach you for free when you convert to their religion which is illegal but they do it.

My two cents on diwali. The general populace doesn't really care about things like pollution(except for the people who care). Diwali was never originally a festival to burst crackers and all sorts of loud fireworks, it was meant to be festival of lights but somewhere down the line it became festival of firecrackers. I for one think bursting overly loud and dangerous fireworks is an insult to the belief and actually makes people of other faith think that our festivals are only meant to harm the environment. I would be really happy if people simply understand what the festival is about and not make up their own stories to burst crackers. People even burst crackers loud and colorful just to prove they have more than their neighbors, ridiculous yes, that is how your average desi is. Sad about the impact it has on environment and even more sad that most people don't even know what to do on festival.

Moreover, Junaid bhai I wanted to share my thoughts about the part of representation of our Pakistani people abroad. Almost 6 months before I shifted abroad to pursue my masters in computer science specifically in AI domain. What hit me when I landed was none of our brothers and sisters were focusing on getting into industry ASAP. Despite the fact that you can get chance to work in industry, university and several other areas related to the field work. Hello Mr. Akram, I was recently watching an Ask where there was a question regarding a marriage and the Nikkah nama was mentioned and you said that you will shoot a video on this subject regarding the terms and conditions the bride can impose incase of a breech. Mr. Akram I think it is about time to make a thorough video where you can give examples since you have many scenarios in your mail and maybe provide an approach for the bride or why not groom too. Regards.

1:39:00 Please avoid using incorrect examples, like suggesting that Raiwind Tabligh (preaching) failed to influence police stations. Are you implying that Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) should not have started Tabligh just because his uncle Abu Talib did not accept Islam?
@ConversationsinCrisis19 күн бұрын
Dont compare apples with oranges.... Muhammad PBUH was preaching Islam not Deobandiyat.... Deoband, Dimagh Band.... Inn tabligh walun ka ek hi rant hota hai => Fazail e Amaal.... Jska apna likhne wale (Sheikh Zikriya) na uss kitaab ka Muqadmiah ma likha hai ka "Hakeem na mjhe dimaghi kaam krne sa mana krdya hai, ab ma farigh houn or ya kitab likh rha hun. Isma koi galti hui tou meri zimmedari nai hai." (Read it by yourself to verify). Uss fazool kitaab ma aisi aisi kahaniyan bhari hui han ka filah buzurg ek raat ma 3 baar Quran khatam krte tha, or filan buzurg 8 baar... what a joke.... Yehi Tableeghi or Deobandi tha jnma sa Sipah Sahaba jesi lanat banai thi Gen Zia... I have been with them... inka ilmi level tou ya ha ka gasht pa jate han tou kisi Shia ka ghar ajae tou skip krdete han... and here you are drawing a parallel with Islam. LOL

20:00 Mr. Junaid, you argue that we indulge in pan-Islamism yet disregard the persecution of certain Muslim groups, mentioning Yemen and Iran as examples. Most Pakistanis are Sunnis, and they often favor Sunnis in discussions or debates between Sunnis and Shias. However, since October 7, nearly all of Pakistan, aside from a few staunch sectarian bigots or pro-Western loyalists, has shown strong support for Iran. As for Yemen, the average Pakistani is largely unaware of the nine-year economic blockade, partly because our media either avoids covering it or is controlled in such a way that it receives far less attention than Palestine. Yet, since the Houthis began targeting ships, Pakistanis have developed a degree of sympathy for them. The animosity that some Pakistanis feel toward Afghans stems from various factors. During the Soviet-Afghan War, the government lacked adequate plans to accommodate and integrate Afghan refugees, leading to a spread of the ‘Kalashnikov culture,’ drugs, and illegal settlements. Had there been effective measures to address these issues, this resentment might never have taken root. It is ultimately the government, not ordinary Pakistanis, that selectively chooses when to advocate for Muslim causes and when to remain silent.

The last story is bullsh*t and disconnected from reality and misrepresents the truth. I have many friends and relatives who have spent years engaged in Tableegh , and during our visits, they’ve interacted with people of various religions respectfully, never initiating religious discussions or imposing their beliefs. They only discuss Islam if someone specifically asks them questions about it otherwise, they maintain a respectful silence and meet with time very nicely. The last story unfairly insults our religion and the practice of Tableegh and is, quite simply, a false portrayal.

As an Afghan, both countries have reasons to h*te one another but I believe our reasons are much more than you guys since we have always been the weaker side in this conflict. This won't be resolved until you guys accept blame, and I don't think you guys ever will. The sad part is, as an Afghan political analyst put it " Afghanistan and Pakistan are connected like a spine", so whatever the suffering in AFG or PAK, we both will have to endure together.

Pakistan would never accept blame for something they've not done, they gave illegal immigrants afgans relief and to come in Pakistan, live and do businesses here without passports only to get terrorized in the end by talibans and afghans only supporting those talibans. It's a shame.

I don't get why we are so fixated on converting everyone to Islam or to morally police someone else. When Islam itself teaches that there is no compulsion in religion. Why not let people live their own lives? Why are we so stuck in these things? To all the muslims out there, Prophet Muhammad PBUH had an honurable reputation for 40 years until he started receiving the revelations, that is why people were willing to believe his words. If you look at the characters of people around you who go on to preach others, you'll be horrified and would link their attributes and personality to the religion, which would instead act as disservice. So, the best way to "preach" is by action, not by words. Walk the talk if you're so persistent in converting other's.
@AliAhmed-hg3pr15 күн бұрын
The verse you are mentioning is probably the 256th verse of Surah Baqarah, "There is no compulsion in religion." It is about not forcing non-Muslims to convert to Islam and not about not forcing Muslims to act upon Islam. You have confused the two. "Why not let people live their own lives?" you said. Well, there is a concept in Islam of "Amr bil Ma'ruf wa Nahi 'an al-Munkar" (enjoining good and forbidding what's wrong). We cannot turn a blind eye to evil, as this is bound to bring Allah's punishment according to the hadees of Aisha R.A. and many more. "By the One in Whose Hand is my soul! Either you command good and forbid evil, or Allah will soon send upon you a punishment from Him; then you will call upon Him, but He will not respond to you." Tirmidhi 2196 (Hasan) Well, you rightfully pointed out that preachers of Islam should have good character that compliments their preaching, and some preachers were found to have moral lackings, but that doesn't mean that oral preaching is wrong or shouldn't be there. Having a good character and preaching orally are not and should not be mutually exclusive. Regarding Hamza's father case, he shouldn't have just abruptly started the speech on the truth of Islam but should have found another more effective way of Tableeg, this way the audience would have had a better chance of listening and responding to his message. Qur'an also asks us to do this. "Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction, and argue with them in a way that is best. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has strayed from His way, and He is most knowing of who is [rightly] guided." (Surah An-Nahl, 16:125) I hope it clarifies certain confusions.

@AliAhmed-hg3pr thanks for this, I'll try to reflect on it. I agree with a lot of what you said just now, and I also agree that we could do a much better job. Like for instance, reading the room before starting to preach. Appreciate your wisdom, have a nice day.
