do you ever see any gnarly weather whip up out there? how do you handle it in that kayak?

Great question. I’ll say most of my trips are max 4 hours so I plan ahead and look at the wind forecast via Windy app. I’ve cancelled trips when the wind changed, and usually avoid anything over 12-15 km winds. When I have hit some surprising weather, I just slowly make my way back while properly positioning my kayak into waves. I haven’t been in anything major but I’ve also got a VHF radio on me and a lot of extra safety gear. You don’t see that in the videos but it’s there.

What lb test are you using?

Mainline is 40# braid, leader line is 25# fluorocarbon. It’s overkill for these pinks, BUT necessary for any toothy lingcod or bigger Chinooks.

@@BCFishingJournal 20lb mainline and heavier duty fluorocarbon for the toothy bottom fish works great..! The thicker mainline can give you trouble when the current is strong. Tight lines!
