DELLER WAS THE MAN. He defeated John Lowe (No. 3), Jocky Wilson (No. 2) and then Eric Bristow (No. 1). Now that was no easy path to becoming Champion.

What a run Deller had that year. Qualifier and beat the world 3, 2 and 1 all former champions, all legend as well! Greatest tournament win in darts ever for me. Seriously beating Lowe, wilson and Bristow all. 8n one tournament. Legend!!!

I remember watching this with my dad, I would've just turned 10. We all wanted to be Keith Deller when we played darts after this. What a tournament that man had.

Can relate to that. I was 18 and played on the same darts team as my Father, sadly he is long gone. But what memories, Deller inspired me to play darts to a good level for a few years.

Keith was an Ipswich lad and a bit of a local hero, we managed to get tickets and watched him in the quarters where he beat Lowe (my favourite) and again in the final. A brilliant experience. A few months later he played an exhibition at our local pub, great bloke who made everyone look distinctly below average. I blame his darts for him not winning more, they had springs in the tips to reduce bounce outs but they were bloody awful things to throw. I know I bought some and never managed to win the world championship. I blame the darts.

I was 18 when I watched this and in my opinion this final pit darts well and truly on the map. There have been some epic finals down the years but this was my all time favourite

Well deserved, he beat all the best,this was no fluke.. As a 14/15 year old at the time it was great too see a younger guy win it. I could not stand Bristol, although forgiven and aprciated how good he was now

It was a shame that Deller never quite hit these heights again. Most of his career he was blighted by hitting too many scores of 60 - his darts rarely strayed off a straight line but he couldn't get the consistency with height to hit the treble 20. If he got the first one in he'd often get the 180 but there weren't enough tons in-between. Bristow and Deller had the same manager for many years and did the exhibition circuit together. Bristow used to tease Deller about winning very little after this world title, which irked Keith - I know this because he told me when he came to my local for an exhibition.

This was the equivalent of Boris Bekker in his tennis debut, a virtual unknown winning the big one in their debut by beating the very best in the business. Deller beat Bristow, Jocky Wilson AND John Lowe. Beating just one of them in the 80's is a daunting task, and he beat all of them in succession. The darts he played were just inhuman

Talk about upsets I was 14 when this happened and you simply could not believe it. Bristow was seen as unbeatable at the time and was as big in the UK as any sportsman. Deller beating Bristow was similar to Buster Douglas beating Mike Tyson it was that big. All over the news as a massive sporting upset.

Yes they had the same manager for years and became friends, although Keith once told me Eric teased him a lot about how little he won after this victory, which would Deller up a bit.

Yep. Probably changed the sport. You'd never see a pro turn down a chance to finish with the other on an out shot now. Great way to win a title and a big FU to Eric who was brilliant but cocky.

I was just following along, doing maths to try and 2nd guess the checkouts as i do and i notice something, with Everybody missed ! @ 32 min, EB Is checking out 101 (or IS HE!! ) it seems that hit hits a SINGLE 19 !! NOT THE DOUBLE , i even had to double check it wasn't in 7 as it was not even close to the 19 treble bed! , thus he apparently only scored 63 !! , Had he got Double 19. which seemingly he Doesn't !, yet was Counted as!! That would then leave 4 ,Double top ! Which h plays out !! Did Brissy Con us all here!!???
