She has such a natural-sounding belt that sometimes I forget that she's actually belting. Too amazing.

Usually I get bored with the repetition of "loved me" at the end, but she kept me captivated until the very end. She's so fantastic!

Seeing this performance in 1997 and meeting her and Robert Cuccioli after the show was an amazing evening....she should've won a Tony ( at least a nomination) and Robert deserved the Tony too...thumbs up !

The problem with writing a show for a specific person's voice is that, while others may act as well or better, the vocals can never match up. Amazing job, Linda!

Deborah Cox is actually quite phenomenal in the new 2012/13 national tour set for a Broadway revival in the late spring. Linda Eder was the impeccable original, but Ms. Cox brings a different kind of energy to the re-imagined, energized production. Bravo to both ladies! (btw, this musical doesn't get enough positive attention for its beautiful ballads for Lucy and Emma...smh)

Um...I know Jekyll and Hyde is a Broadway musical. I asked what these videos were from. I was under the impression the only released recording OF the Broadway musical was the awful David Hasselhoff version. So once again, what are these videos from? The quality makes me think they are pro-shot.

That one is the only one available to the public, yes. I hear that it's normal for shows (even in the 80s) to have some sort of pro-shot for archival purposes, but they're not available to the public. This and some other clips are from the press reels they did at the time.

I am going to have to disagree. While I understand this is your opinion, I find that Linda Eder had more subtle choices which caused her character to come across more realistic and relatable. Colleen Sexton, on the other hand, came across very dramatic and grandiose. I found it difficult to take her seriously.

Although everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I'm going to strongly disagree with this. I find it difficult to find a single acting choice Linda Eder makes. I believe the "subtle acting choices" you are talking about are her half hearted attempts at the blocking that her and Coleen Sexton both do. Linda sings the role brilliantly, no doubt about that. But let's not let her voice blind us about her clear weakness, which is acting. Coleen came across "dramatic"? Well, yes. It's Broadway.

@zoegoodman2000

Well, it depends on how you see Lucy: she could be a slip of a girl or a middle aged/mature woman. It's possible that Lucy could be older then Jekyll. It can make sense either way. But I do see your point.

Kaylah Hodgins obviously you know nothing about this play. Every song was written around her voice for this play her husband and another person wrote this play just for her. So when you say something like that you do not know what you're talking about. And nobody sings this song like her or any of the songs in this play like her.

Zoe Goodman exactly it’s all depends on how you see Lucy. Colleen has more of the looks for her(from what I’ve seen she supposed to be kinda innocent and sweet) but Linda has an amazing voice(it’s incredible and I’m jealous). Personally I think my favorite version of Lucy is the one I saw at my local theater but I’m biased because she’s played by my friend😂😂

@IngenuousSoprano
@IngenuousSoprano 2 жыл бұрын
I know this comment is quite old, but I'm so very curious about what aspects make you prefer one over the other and if that translates into your general vocal preferences. Example: I prefer Linda as Lucy and as a singer in general (a similar comparison for a different show would be that I prefer Pia Douwes as Elisabeth over Maike Boerdam) and this translates directly into my general listening preferences. Colleen's voice is so bright and so forward, it sounds very, very youthful (and very similar to Maike Boerdam's) -- it really reads as babyish to my ears in a way, maybe pouty is a better descriptor. I may prefer her much lighter voice with lighter subject matter. Linda's voice is darker, the soft palette is very raised, very dome-y. It gives her a very rounded, mature sound. It reads as very adult to my ears, definitely not a teenager. It seems like a better fit for heavy subjects
