I have several Abus 83/50 300's keyed with a SC 1. I added the provided 6th spool pin as the sixth pin, riding the key tip. My new home (still moving), has third gen smartlock, so Abus locks are just for secured storage. Thanks Jason

Thanks for video! The key retention doodad fell off when disassembled lock. I honestly didn’t know were it went or why it was needed because the lock still worked without the doodad. lol

Nice vid, have a schlage version, but isn't the key retaining doodad black dot out = retaining, black dot not showing = not retaining, no need to loose a doodad. Verified it just now!

GKeyman565 Yeah but they’re fiddly when inserting the core into the lock so usually they just get tossed or saved in a pile.

Is there a Mississippi lock and key?

Only thing I could figure on this being that way, is the plug was not broached to the proper depth.

We have a name for the key retaining piece, we call it the "squiggly bar".

Very interesting. A cylinder that is designed to be rekeyed while still attached to the bible, now that's innovation. First time I've seen a cylinder like that, very cool. Thanks for the tips in this video, cheers

Pocket Women It’s pretty common. Some are not cut out as large. They may just be drilled holes.

Hmm... Well, that's something different. I've done plenty of these Abus 83 Series padlocks... Usually; Schlage, Corbin, or Sargent flavors. Haven't done any Weisers, but that's good to know! Interesting... 😅 - I honestly thought this was going to be about trying to rotate to the core, and use a follower.. only to find the spring loaded detent pops into a chamber!

Nice Video, is your pin kit .003 or .005? Nevermind, I re-watched the email and see it's .003. what was the models on those padlocks.

never noticed that. I always just call it the key retainer. or Z thingy deal.... Weiser not real popular here. its here. but not real popular. Always just use the Kw and sch. The older folks LOOOOVE it. It was more popular years ago. Only a few suppliers even stock it here now.
