you say there are far easier ways to make money compared to being a doctor/banker but I think you'll be hard pressed to find a career that pays as well on a risk adjusted basis
@CuriousCockatoo21 күн бұрын
Fair call, I'd say that's more or less true if you want to stick to doing a role. But, as with any job, if you want to make real money you need to move to management/business ownership. There, tradies will make on-par with or more than a doctor/banker. But yeah that requires a certain kind of person and comes with its own risks too.

@@CuriousCockatoo When the "way to make real money" is ownership and not labor, you know there is a problem. Capitalism.

50% of the value of uni is the people you meet, 25% is your uni email inbox, 25% is your actual courses if you're not going out to all the extracurriculars/networking events you can then yeah it's gonna be a waste

Did a bachelors didn’t learn enough to secure a decent job so moved to Australia for masters because I was told there is a huge skill shortage for my occupation just to realise the market is over saturated and skills taught in university are not good enough to get an entry level job.

the next part of the scam is being able to afford your own home! if you don't have wealthy parents to help, make sure you find a partner that does.

Finished my TAFE degree this year (diploma in screen and media) and all my teachers have had at least 2 years of experience in the industry, many working on major films (James Bond Skyfall, Peter Rabbit 2, Mission Impossible to name a few) and the experience and skills that they have is amazing. A lot of alumni get jobs immediately, I'm waiting to get enough money to be able to move but my teachers know the people we can end up working for and have said they will put in a word for us so we have connections. Two of them work at the uni as well, and they have said multiple times TAFE is way better. I would highly recommend TAFE, I have no regrets.

good video. Just transferred to UNSW to study cs after visiting San Francisco for 3 months. Had this dilemma and figured out cs is something I like, I think it's important to be sure of that though.

All of this is true but you need to choose something that has a demand for jobs. No point studying anything that you are interested in/good at after finding yourself if there is no market demand.

i graduate highschool in a year - and im gonna take a gap year because i have no clue WHATSOEVER on what i wanna do & i mean how could i? as a 17 year old i would have had no experience doing anything trying anything out at all - i have a friend who dropped out at 16 and went to polytech, something that was right for her and i see so many people going into the uni pipeline saying they want to be a "lawyer" or a "doctor" because they wan't the money - me too but i just don't think i can give my soul for hours and hours for something i'm not passionate about. THIS IS SO HARDD AND I JUST DON'T KNOW

right i'm also taking a year off. I think everybody needs time to think what to do with their life. and I mean it's ok if you wanna study to be a doctor or something as you say because of the money, but is it really worth it only for the money? I think the best thing to do is to find something that you like so much that doesn't feel like a job to you, something that fulfills you and you can make money out of it.

The biggest issue has been post Covid higher interest rates and a lot of companies, especially in the US, on stock exchanges are backed by crap loads of debt convertible bonds, hence the institutional investors mistaken “debt for leverage” and not caring about it the next generation (just being human because people can’t conceptualize another person existing until they actually meet them)
@GChief1173 күн бұрын
Just to put on the table, if going for the noble prize or further studies as well to become a medical doctor, or get a doctorate, it can help at the same time. Also a PhD/DPhil helps with institutional investors for what venture one would be pursuing (comes with high impact publications though). However, a big problem is honestly the economics of the wealth gap disparity that has been consistently going on.

Most people don't really want status. They just want to be comfortable and regular jobs don't get you that anymore. So you gotta study engineering or medicine

Stuff like this is why I never went to college. I have 9+ years of food service and Landed Union work with health insurance and benefites. My resume is my greatest asset. My job has so mych opportunity to build it and make me more appealing simply from my loyalty. The skills I picked up help more. I can get a Management Job easy as pie or move onto a new field with some networking at my current job.

I'm currently planning to study an arts degree at Melbourne Uni next year, and have an offer to stay at one of the "prestigious" residential colleges. However, I don't feel fully ready and satisfied with my pathway, do you recommend I take the gap year I have been contemplating about?
@tezismith879522 күн бұрын
I'd say send it. what's a gap gear gonna do to help u
@CuriousCockatoo22 күн бұрын
You're the only one that can make that decision. If you're interested in the courses your considering it might be worth it to test it out. But as you said, if you're not satisfied, there's no harm taking the gap year (or even half year I think they let you do) and working, experimenting with different interests, and thinking
