Muy friend Wolf, you please stand back a little today. A little more. More. That's it !!! Don't move!!! Dear Sistah, thank you, thank you and more thanks for the affection with which you speak of your subscribers, and for the emotion of your reactions; believe me it's mutual. In these times we are living, while people die inside my TV all the time, I am only relieved listening to a song that does not talk about stupidity, with nonsense words and empty lyrics. When I feel like this, I come to your channel and I revive inside. I haven't listened to this band for a long time so, thanks to the patreon that has requested it, I have listened to the complete album again. Not only this one, but also the previous and the next ones. Faced with a band like this, I can only take my hat off (always subjectively, of course, because what I will write is my opinion). In fact, I don't understand how it is possible that during their first two albums (or were they three?) they didn't have a label company!!!, unless their members refused, for unknown reasons to me. And of course, without a company, or there is own money, or there is no promotion, neither distribution, and there are no video clips... (a pity) But the fact is that I have the album because a friend brought it to me...¡¡¡ straight from Australia!! In Spain it was impossible to find in stores (there was the internet, for sure but, having a friend in Australia... Yes, I had to wait, but that way I had an excuse to see her, because sometimes she comes and doesn't even say hello, daughter of a b.....But that is another story!...as Moustache used to say on Irma la Douce) Without further ado, let's get started!! BE'LAKOR Ever since I heard their first album, I knew that two of its members were actively collaborating with the band Rainshadow, and I feared the influence they might have from "some perfidious" new 00s Gothic bands. The truth is that they have that influence, because they make up a melodic-very-melodic-very-melodic death, with arpeggios and structures more typical of gothic, as well as the duration of the songs, if you look much longer than those of other songs from death bands. But they do it in a way that I personally find effective, brilliant and even emotional. Guitars that alternate brutal riffs, due to their effective coarseness, and intersect melodies without rest, all backed by a wall of powerful bass-drums and a voice that emerged from the very bowels of hell. Long, complex and deep songs, with atmospheric components, careful keyboards and interludes that, despite bordering on gothic, never fall into its clichés. THE SONGS "VENATOR" opens the album with a somewhat easy arpeggio, let's say, that does not presage the magnificent opening riff and the avalanche caused by the group joining the party in droves, with long rhythmic sections and exemplary percussion power . But, and therein lies one of the main virtues of the group, the Australians don't cut a hair when it comes to treating the same riff structure in different ways, with solos that sound like Sabbath or pulling directly from the quiet keyboard. The second solo is an example of melody and old ways, and the pounding distorted riffs are punctuated with spare but concrete rhythmic work. "FROM SCYTHE TO SCEPTRE" integrates a very melodic riff with a gradual rise in the rhythm of the percussion. Patches of gothic appear when the voice enters, at first much more melodic than the previous one, and with more guitar work that climbs to a kind of "chorus" very well chained and continues weaving beautiful melodies with a touch of sadness and a piano that, once again, brings gothic closer to the bar and accommodates it, with an arpeggiated section of palpable simplicity and darkness. A very emotional song that has more death airs in its final part. A palm mute with a spatial echo greets us on "OUTLIVE THE HAND", to evolve into a psychedelic keyboard melody with guitar blows. Once again, the arpeggios that will be armed with all their distortion to offer a stupendous main riff melody and a section commanded by the keyboard that visibly sours. The central part of the theme is hypnotic, crossed on tiptoe by a solo, and delivered to some of the most melodic moments of the work, which almost borders on progressive, only broken by the powerful voice of George Kosmas. The group drops the instrumentation, again, for a totally calm keyboard part and the final entrance in a riff that seems like a hybrid between gothic and death metal, which is carried away by a sad and desolate piano. Things become more epic on "SUN'S DELUSION", despite never losing that aura of restlessness that never leaves the album completely. Special work by the drums during a central section of great expressive brilliance that delves deeper and deeper into the strange universe of these Australians. The most melodic and calm section could not be missing, solved with a doubling of guitars in a languid plucking that, once again, launches the song towards an excellent progression and a melodic and overflowing final part. "HELD IN HOLLOWS" once again unfolds his guitars under the domination of an incessant crash, and offers some of the best-constructed riffs on the album. An open melodic work, with classic heavy breaks and old school death accelerations. That mix of styles, and a keyboard section that seems a little out of tune and creates an incredible effect, preludes a new escalation to intense double bass. Of course, the melodic part of the song is present, with a classic twist that once again leaves the leading role to the piano. Once again, the guitars will hold their particular duel of equals to surrender to a riff that makes the quality of the guitarists clear, to then drown themselves and reappear with the entire group delivered to a section in which the warmth of the piano contrasts with the thunderous vocal line. "HUSKS" is a rather sad arpeggiated instrumental track, which is accompanied by keyboard effects while the acoustic guitars With no time to recover us, the drums of war appear and the contained guitar blasts of "ASPECTS". Again the keyboard seeks the leading role in a riff sustained by a relentless double bass drum. The drums make use of all their kit for a more classic structure than the previous ones, which they entrust again to crossed melodies and book death, with a disturbing bridge and a riff with shapes that remind me of the old Paradise Lost. Of course, we also have the umpteenth melodic part that integrates perfectly into the group's new maelstrom, with shapes that are more than close to Doom and Gothic in its final part. "COUNTLESS SKIES" could be the magnum opus of the album, a good recomendación, but not the only one. A disturbing and progressive beginning of the hand of the keyboards that are drowning in despair, giving way to the piano and some guitar lines with a sad and restless melody, sensations that are not abandoned despite the acceleration of the group in meandering guitars and the various changes of rhythm and melody that cut this sprawling theme into slices. It is the central part, a sustained and royal instrumentation work by the entire group, which gives the theme an absolute package. The guitars seem to raise the ensemble to heaven and then collapse it to once again cede control of the melody to the piano and join it in a beautiful work, once again bordering on progressive, of intersecting melodies. In the end, guitars and piano take center stage in variations of the same melody, leaving the more technical details for the drums which, again due to their sobriety, weave an exceptional spider web for the group's melodic charge. SUMMARIZING... A work that pleasantly surprised me because, after a great debut album, you always have the question of what the second one will be like. And these guys outdid themselves, with dense compositions that, even so, are easily tamed on first listen, and if you give them a couple of days, they'll hook you. An effective integration of the most melodic death metal with hints of gothic metal that, despite the similar structure of the songs and their very long duration, offers moments of pure melodic glory thanks to the sufficiency of the performers on their instruments. It was probably One of the best albums of 2009. And for me it's one of the Sistine Chapels of melodic death. SUMMARIZING EVEN MORE.. I RECOMMENDED YOU LISTEN TO THIS ENTRE ALBUM, BECAUSE IT WILL IMMEDIATELY GO TO YOUR FAVORITES LIST. That's all folks!! As always, kisses and hugs from Spain.

Agreed. The growls are like peated whisky. An aquired taste. I love their hypnotic quality in old Amon Amarth and Be'lakor. When they are constantly snarling and aggressive, it's hard to relax.

Well, many people don't understand this kind of music with vocals (growls, screams, etc.). They don't deal with the lyrics either, otherwise you would understand the deep meanings (hopes, longings) of the songs

I’m extremely picky with metal vocals. Be’Lakor is one that I think actually sounds good and goes with the instruments so well that it almost sounds like one. I can also understand like 95% of the lyrics by listening. Septicflesh is another good one that is similar.

So glad to see your reaction to Be'lakor! I totally get what Wolf was trying to explain.. how people can't hear the beauty because the surface seems rough.. To me it's a bit like people without spice tolerance tasting food that has some chili in it and they can't tell if it tastes good because all they can taste is fire.. Sometimes it feels frustrating and alienating that people can't or won't experience what you're experiencing.. you can't share it. To me this union of beauty and darkness is perfect... it mirrors my experience of life.

Sorry to all the scandinavian lovers, but Melodeath Crown goes to Australia. Be'lakor's storytelling (lyrical/composition) is just so well conceived. I don't often get into the lyrical aspect of the song, unless I am really interested in a specific song. However, Be'lakor has shown me that in their music the lyrical aspect is just as important as the melody that carries the weight of their poems along.

I came here for the Be'lakor reaction. But then - didn't anybody notice? Therion in the background of your talking. NICE! Haven't heard their albums in a while. I liked that. Be'lakor sent me on a whole new musical journey in 2017. All of their first 4 albums played up an down my mp3-player. After "Vessels" it became mighty quiet around them. And COVID turne up and in February '22 I accidentally came across the news of the most recent album "Coherence" - I was awe-struck. First album in almost 6 years (I think). I turned it on and the first track "Locus kept me waiting and waiting with the intro, but when it finally fired up - OMFFFFFG - goose bumps ran all over me, complete orgasm - there's no other description possible. Thank you guys for this video. Be'lakor is, I believe, still very much underrated. They completely changed my taste of music. Why don't you do some early Pallbearer songs next?

Ps. Yes, I agree, a lot of people, including myself, can take a few listens sometimes before the mastery of a piece sinks in, but Sistah & also Tank the Tech (makes sense I guess, the dude's been saturated in live music for years) are of those who don't need that time, they hear And process it in real time. That is a gift. 💚 one I'm a tad jealous of, 😂😉 pps. Their song, A Natural Apostasy has FLUTE!! (Yes, former marching band member here 🙋‍♀️piccolo and flute🤷‍♀️.)

This makes me so happy.💚💚💚 Be'lakor is my Favorite. I love them so much I think maybe I effed my voice cuz I want to sound like George and I have poor self control. The most recent album Gives Me Life. This band. I'm kinda sad for the person that requested this that they are not enjoying the newer stuff, since I garner such Joy from it. 😅🤷‍♀️💚. Ha, love the "mountain of sound," esp since the latest album is all about a mountain! Ok, so if you're in the mood for a tragic story, check out In Parting from the Of Breath and Bone album. Listened to that song for years w/o looking up the lyrics, when I finally did I felt gut punched, 😅😢 very Brithers Grimm. I would say Ember's Arc is gorgeous, follow that up with The Smoke Of Many Fires (2nd & last songs from the concept album Vessels). Then the newest stuff, maybe start with Valence, it's driving thrum really makes me feel like being overtaken by a violent river (tho the song says "lake" but whatever-the rythym screams Angry River to me!) Sorry, I'm adhding all over your comment section, but I Really...*Really* love this band. Adore you two.

@@robertm7071 you might be deaf. Not joking. I lost hearing, without a good quality sound system, tracks like this are nowhere near the way they were. Modern people go clubbing so often at a very young age that they destroy their hearing and in the end only listen to shitty, simple nasty lyric focused tunes. Or your brain might just suck at processing sound right from birth.
