At the National Association of Black Journalists Convention (NABJC) in Chicago on Wednesday, former President Donald Trump made controversial remarks about Vice President Kamala Harris's racial identity. Trump claimed that Harris made a "sudden" change to identify as black.
During the event, Trump was asked if he believes Harris is "only on the ticket because she is a black woman." Trump responded, "Well, I can say no. I think it’s maybe a little bit different. I’ve known her a long time indirectly - not directly very much - and she was always of Indian heritage. And she was only promoting Indian heritage. I didn’t know she was black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn black, and now she wants to be known as black. So, I don’t know, is she Indian, or is she black?”
ABC News's Rachel Scott interjected, noting that Harris has always identified as a black woman, having attended a historically black college.
“I respect either one, but she obviously doesn’t,” Trump continued. “Because she was Indian all the way, and then, all of a sudden, she made a turn, and she became a black person.”
These remarks have sparked significant backlash and debate about identity and heritage, highlighting the complexities and sensitivities surrounding racial identity in American politics.

I think that you're making a false equivalent argument about the male/female Olympic competitors. The chromosome argument and comparisons on physiognomy seem a bit misleading. Italians historically were mostly fair and blue eyed. There has been genetic input from the North Africa during the Islamic conquest of Sicily and part of the southern part of the Italian peninsula. There's also increasing immigration from outside European, for example Brazilians (who may be entirely of Italian blood, partly of Italian descent or otherwise). The Olympic 100m champion, Marcell Lamont Jacobs, has an Italian mother and African American father.
