J.Solid, You did it " THE RIGHT WAY " did not take the easy road. Now you can clean up all the rust, crap in there " EVERY WHERE " from taking the dash out & primer it a few times. Clean up what ever you can, check " EVERYTHING " while the dash is out, wiring, bulbs, speakers, gauges, ect... VERY SMART TO DO IT THIS WAY BUT SUCH A PITA. The thing is NOW YOU KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE BY DOING THIS, A+ SIR, A+. Sometimes you frustrate me AS I DO OTHER'S, LOL BUT THIS TIME GREAT JOB & AS YOUR CHANNEL IS CALLED IT'S " JEEP SOLID " NOW. Henry froom PA. living in the old RUST BELT HERE SUCKS.

Save yourself some time and drill ALL of the hinge screws in the body. Just got thru with this .. WAY easier that trying to grip the nut. Great video to tell you what to expect.

When I did this project on mine, I used a Dremel tool. Small enough to get in there and remove the Seam Sealer easily. Takes a bit to cut off old bolts, but patience is key

Wanted to take those bottom screws out to put my roof rack on - quickly realized I was out of my element and took it to a jeep shop where they got em out for 60 bucks. WORTH

you can counter sink bit drill the holes to match the screw shoulder to the brackets. just take your time to counter sink until the screw flush with the bracket surface.

I just did mine, too. Only passenger side, though. It broke completely in half. Wish I had been warned that putting the windshield down might break the hinges. I thought they were just tight, but I was actually bending the metal brackets as I lowered it. It was a job getting that sealer off the nuts. I had a little success with heat, a sharpened screwdriver and a dental pick to pull it away.

I just changed mine out on my CJ-5 with no issues. But I have new hinges for my YJ. That one has a broken bolt in it. I don't think I'm going to get lucky twice... LOL.

Weld the nuts or riv nuts maybe would help? I may try if I ever do this on my YJ.
@AnubisReviews3 жыл бұрын
I drilled out the bolts and installed rivet nuts so I don't have to worry about tearing into the dash. Cuts out hours of work.

I had to give up on mine. I need to drill them. They either spin in place (solvable like you did) or were solidly rusted; after stripping a couple and snapping three T40s I quit. The method I’ve used on other Jeeps is to weld on a 7/16 nut -the combination of heat and using a stronger socket gets them to come out and I need to drill or do that with mine. I need a solid day to do it and get stuff painted well I’m confused why rugged ridge is described as ‘nice’ considering they are such a thin gage. At least the ones I’ve seen.

I would like to apologize to you Dale, I had misunderstood you you before, I thought the windshield hinges had the nuts welded in on the inside of the body, I didn't realize that they were just held in place by the undercoating sealer. Now I understand why you took the dash apart to get at them. After seeing all that I kinda agree with other people about the idea of just drilling them out and then driving them thru with a hammer and a punch. But like you said, you still need to get the dash apart so you can install the new hardware.

Hey! No problem. Got it done and it looks good. Man that sealer was a pain
@rjdrums264 жыл бұрын
Use a sharp blade to cut around the sealer. I work as a seam sealer and have to deal with the hard sealer occasionally. Sharp blade like a chisel or scraper works well. Little bit of heat helps too.
@JeepSolid4 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I used a chisel and some heat. Fortunately the dash came apart fairly easy. Let me attack it a lot easier

I ordered the full rugged ridge door hinge kit with body hindges. Oddly enough the upper door hinge doesn't fit into the windshield hinge slide pin. Brass pin seems to large. Posting a video of this issue. Hinges dont fit factory windshield hinge either

Do you think that by removing that seam sealer it could cause a water leak under the dash? Also did you end up using any special nuts for the install?
