Even though, as a Baptist-turned-Anglican, I'm a Book of Common Prayer daily office-user by default, I'm very encouraged by this new volume. Resources like this are needed, even when others already exist. After all, even the BCP daily office was adapted from older Benedictine practices. I learned many years ago the value of rhythms and echoing the prayers of past saints. I actually started reading the daily office when I worked at my Baptist seminary and went through a deep period of depression and mental fog. I struggled to pray during that time, and the structure and ancient prayers of the saints gave me words to meditate on and lift up when I didn't have them on my own. If this book can help anyone ground their devotion time, connect deeply with the great Christian tradition, and pray--even in times when they may not have prayers of their own--I praise God for it.

Thank you for your openness to other Christian resources and traditions. As an Episcopal priest, I recommend using the Book of Common Prayer for the Daily Office. Compline or night prayer is a simple way to end our day. Two other resources: Common Prayer: A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals A New Zealand Prayer Book

I’ve got one on order and was thrilled when I saw you were going to review it. I come from an Anglican (what we call the Church of England in Australia 🇦🇺) tradition and Be Thou My Vision is my favourite hymn. Many thanks.

I love this book! My pastor and I have been reading it together in the mornings before we begin our day. (I am the Associate Pastor of Students and Worship). Tim, I resonate with your story. I also saw my Grandma model Bible reading and church life for me when I was young. However, I too have struggled specifically with prayer as I have gotten older. This book has really helped me this year. I am not from a liturgical tradition, but I really love this devotion because of it's Scripture saturated content, simple layout, and quality of printing. This will be a treasure for many years to come.

I purchased this book after viewing your review and began using it last May 1st (2022). I have used it every morning now for one year, and I t has been a blessing for me, helping me focus and be more engaged during my time of devotion and Bible study. My favorite aspect was discovering the many beautiful prayers of some early Christian saints (Anselm is my favorite. What an amazing man of faith he must have been). Thank you for bringing it to my attention.

I use and love the 1662 BCP. I have purchased this and love the cloth over the board. It is a far lighter read than the BCP. This is ideal for people unfamiliar with using the BCP. It is also produced in modern language and far easier to read than the traditional prayer books. I am glad that I bought this and use it on a regular basis. It has won me over.

May I also recommend the Divine Office or the Liturgy of the Hours for your prayer life. You might find it also interesting. Please give it a thought. I heard that you find the Book of Common Prayer interesting. You might be surprised about the Liturgy of the Hours. You can get a compressed one book, Christian Prayer book or the 4 book series itself Liturgy of the Hours which I highly recommend. Again, please give it a thought. Only a few knew that Catholics have this very rich scriptural prayers which form the community prayer which it is intended for.

The Divine Office -- Morning, Evening, and Compline have been part of Christian worship since the Reformation ( and before). Liturgical prayer and the accompanying Scriptural readings, are open to ALL Christians and is not limited to any one denomination. It is a blessing to get into the rhythm of the Daily Office. Couldn't agree with your suggestion any more.

I love this book! It's pretty much a Reformed version of the Daily Office, which is cool. But, to be honest I prefer the 1662 Book of Common Prayer (International Edition) from IVP. Maybe Tim could review that next 🤔 😂

Yes @timwildsmith, please do a review of that! It’s a gorgeous esition of the 1662 BCP but with its language a little bit modernized for international use. And while you’re at it, please do the 2019 BCP by ACNA as well. They have a premium edition thereof printed by Royal Jongbloed. I’m sure you’ll love it!

I really enjoyed your story. Resonates so much with me. I used to attend a baptist church in the Midwest, but I've been with a non-denominational church since I moved to California. While I enjoy the solid teaching at my current church, I do miss the liturgical worship.

Many years later we are attending a Reformed Episcopal Church and using their prayer book. But I have been looking at this. Trying to lessen the accumulating at my age but your video was helpful. From what I can remember from growing up and going to Catholic Church, I do remember seeing some full-sized missals for the liturgy in Mass (and, of course, the one used for the altar), but I don't remember ever using them. I know my mother had a hand missal (I think she still has it, in fact), but I never used one; by the time I was more aware and participating in Catholic Church, the use of missalettes provided to the parishioners was much more common. And that was just for the Sunday Mass (I remember notes in the missalettes for weekday services). I certainly don't remember any liturgical book at home while growing up; maybe there are some for Catholics, but I don't remember seeing one. Seeing this review of *Be Thou My Vision* . . . I kinda wish I had something like that earlier. Right now, my daily devotional (a New Years Resolution for 2022 that, so far, I've managed to keep) has been going through Charles Spurgeon's *Morning & Evening* twice a day. *Be Thou My Vision* -- or something similar -- could wind up being part of my daily devotional in 2023! That looks NICE!!

I tried to suggest that you might like exploring the AnglicanChurch in North American Book of Common Prayer from Anglican House Publishers but I put a hot link in it on which KZbin threw cold water. You reviewed their Psalter, and the BCP 2019 is its cntext. It's a beautiful book. You convinced me to order a copy of Be Thou My Vision, largely because I graduated from a Presbyterian Seminary, and was never rational enough to qualify as a Presbyterian so I went through the Methodist Studies Division, but I'm curious to see what at least Presbyterian is up to.
