I'll never forget how terrifying it was being trapped in sellia crystal tunnel, and then walking out, straight into hell.

I managed to painfully make my way through it... only to find the boss room instead. I was so triggered for not knowing how to get out that i had to google it and got out in 5 seconds. :D They designed that place to trick you... usually in a cave going up is the way out, going down is to go deeper.... but not in elden rekt. (those sneaky elevators take you deeper so you then explore upwards instead)

I spent about half an hour trying to fight my way out with no luck. Then I remembered that sneaking exists, so I tried sneaking my way out and to my surprise it actually worked. You can literally just crawl out of that hellhole without triggering a single enemy’s aggro.

funnily enough I cleared the whole cave including the boss AND the boss outside in Sellia (literally next door) in one go after getting teleported xD Granted I was lvl 80 and had the Sword of Night and Flame :)))

It's funny as the chest is pretty close to the starting point of the game too, making it very likely it'll catch you super early game. That chest got me my first playthrough and I was freaking out when I first saw the hellscape that Caelid is. 🤣

My personal experience was ignoring the obvious boss and church gleaming in golden light to go explore. I found a sunken church, went inside and was teleported into the ass crack of hell. I managed to survive the mine and make it outside only to realise I never really made it out, cue the benny hill music as I ran all the way back from calid to limgrave without a horse, for over three hours real time as I freak the fuck out of stuff I not only had the displeasure of seeing for the first time but I couldn't even hurt. I was level six, I was just a lil boi! It was truly a "welcome to the big leagues kid" moment, I'll never forget it.

Not even lying, on my blind first playthrough I found this chest. First I thought it was just curse gas, so I tried to do a quick roll in n out only to land up in New Jersey. However, I found a cute dog summons after running around like an idiot which that pupper became my best friend for the rest of the playthrough. The pup's rot proc is INTENSE.

So far the accuracy of these shorts is 100% for what happened in my first playthrough (and many, many others as well). Although I know there are no Mimic chests in the game now, I STILL hit every chest with my sword before I open it. Did the same in Sekiro and Bloodborne. Hell, I hit chests in every other game I play now. Dark Souls left me with a very bad case of treasure chest PTSD.

I don't hit them in Bloodborne, but I do in Dark Souls because I don't completely trust the trick of looking at the chain. I wouldn't mind there being a trick to telling the normal and teleporting chests apart in Elden Ring though. That said, I immediately hammer O when opening the chest and that's saved me from being taken away. I do usually end up letting it take me, though, because I don't mind now getting taken to a new place and the site of grace usually isn't too hard to find (depending on one's level of panic). Caelid was the perfect place to showcase the chests since it was likely most players' first encounter with the teleporting chests.

I can't remember which game it was, but there was a game with mimics that I played that if you hit a chest that wasn't a mimic you would destroy the chest and the contents inside.

So this was my exact first experience of any souls game. B lining it to that chest and being level 1 in Caelid for hours. I heard the game was hard so I figured it was just a normal. Even discovered how to kill the marionettes by luring them near the poison blobs. Surprised I didn't delete the game right there.

Randomly being transported while low level to that cave then shortly afterwards being tormented/shocked/disgusted/fascinated by Caelid was probably one of my favorite Elden Ring experiences. Also this sort of experience is one of the major reasons we LOVE these games so much, because it combined so many things I adore about the Soulsborne games into one crazy trip. And good god the Caelid soundtrack is one of the most unsettling game OST's I've ever heard in my life... there's no way they could have made a more fitting soundtrack that shows the absolute horrific and unnatural nature of the scarlet rot

I remember my jaw literally dropped when I got out of the damn cave and started exploring, I think I spent like a week just running around to random places happy with the fact that Torrent can ignore the damn swamp. Also the first time I saw a T-rex dog was when I heard something behind me and turned around to see it doing that charge attack towards me, scared the shit out of me XD.

Agreed on the OST, Caelid's soundtrack is an atmospheric backdrop of horrific and unsettling sounds that I never thought I would ever hear in a video game. It really enhances the experience and the disturbing nature of the region. It sounds like the world itself is dying, which it is, so they completely nailed it.

Saw all the messages and got the warning so I skipped it. Decided to go back and trigger the trap anyway. That was a mistake, given that I went UP in the crystal tunnel, which is the wrong thing to do there. Fallingstar beast had me for lunch, dinner, a snack, for some pinochle, and generally made me regret all my decisions in life. Finally deafeated it, got the teleport to the entrance and learned that I could have gone some different direction and the entrance was RIGHT THERE! Good troll, From, good troll.

use the Meteoric ore blade katana, it says in the description: Katana forged from meteoric ore to dispatch lifeforms born of falling stars. I used a +7 to kill the fallingstar beast at the volcano.

0:01 This is Dragon Burnt Ruins. A small area in Limgrave. The worst thing you'll find here are those fucking DOGS!!! 0:08 The zombies here are not very bright. You can ignore those for the most part. 0:15 Also they mostly drop some ingredients for crafting, although there are special ones with chests that drop very good runes. 0:17 And here we have the treasure of Dragon Burnt ruins. If you haven't seen the video yet and you didn't go there already I suggest you go there and open that chest. I highly recommend it! It will really help you on your journey :) 0:20 Also remember not to read those messages. They are just trolls. They try to steer you away from great treasure. Again. Go there already. Open it. You will love it... Are they gone? Are they back >:) Okay, let's continue... 0:22 *Insert Snoop Dog song here* 0:23 Welcome to the mines bitch. This chest is basically a new kind of mimic in this game. It transports you to funny places. 0:25 The messages as you can see are very hopeful and sweet. 0:30 Here is typical enemy here. A miner. And don't be deceived. They are tough. 0:35 The miners mine obviously. What they mine can actually be picked up if it glows. Those are Smithing Stones. 0:38 And yep. Those guys are tanky. 0:41 I don't where Carbot got this Monty Python character. 0:44 And here we have a true Sweetheart of those mines. Kindred of Rot are some of the most annoying and downright infuriating enemies in the entire game. Their whole shtick is that they are born of Rot and they worship it. This Rot is connected to one of the Demigods, Malenia. But we will get to that cancer later. 0:48 And this is one of the biggest reasons for my hatred of them. Their ranged attack deals TONS of damage and it tracks you. You can imagine how fun this is. 0:50 And death is not an escape. You will respawn here until you manage to get to Site of Grace or get out of the mine. Good luck. 0:56 You will fail a lot. 0:59 Good old Karma whoring, but to not be a complete douche I'll just say RUN. Run to the bottom to the cave, there is a site of grace there and an exit which leads to... 1:03 Caelid. Welcome to hell. A land ravaged by Scarlet Rot unleashed by Malenia when she was about to lose against General Radahn to whom this part of Lands Between belonged to. Now it's a fun place where you will learn to appreciate Limgrave and Liurnia for how peaceful and serene they are in comparison. 1:06 The water here is going to infect you with Scarlet Rot. It's worse poison. It' basically Toxic from other From games and it may be kind of worse. It takes away your hp at a really high rate until the bar disappears or you die. There are some things that can take care of it, like a certain incantation Flame Cleanse Me or Preserving Boluses Item. 1:09 Also in Limgrave there is an NPC that invades you and this isn't this NPC's name just so you know (you can't be actually invaded in ER by players with no summons which I have my issues with). She is named MIllicent and hopefully we can get to her later. 1:12 This is one of the normal enemies here. Giant Dino Dogs. 1:14 And horrific nightmare crows (they basically took the Bloodborne route and made their most annoying enemies even more infuriating). 1:17 Invader is here (or maybe it's knight of rot, either way Carbot is fucked) 1:21 And Dragon which are very common in Caelid. Especially in that one area to the north in Caelid. Again... Good luck.

I loved this part of the game, because when some other game "kidnaps" you, you know it's scripted, so even if they take away your equip/powers, everything is perfectly balanced for you to make it out alive. But in Elden Ring, when you get kidnapped, it's for real... the game doesn't care if you keep all your stuff, because now you're a high level area with no idea hot to get away. I really felt kidnapped and worried. Luckily they also know that the tension feels good if it has a relief, so they also put the exit near enough, and clsoed out the rest of the cave behind a "weird" jump, so that people would go for the exit first. :)

@@aracuscesar People would troll you by either giving you warnings about false dangers, putting posts around ledges telling you that there's some crucial treasure at the bottom, or giving you a bunch of words to read at the moment you're getting invaded by a phantom and you get picked off easily.. Thing is, dark souls is so full of secrets that these posts were usually easy to buy into. So after a while, you stop reading them lol.

This was literally the first thing I did after entering Limgrave and I didn't know that you couldn't teleport from inside caves so I figured I couldn't teleport yet or something (my first run through was 100% blind). It took me 2-3 hours to sneak all the way back to Limgrave and it's ended up being one of my favourite gaming memories.

@owl777 That's likely what I'd have done if it had happened to me. I ran around finding sites of grace to get Torrent as soon as I could. I could also tell how underleveled I was for that mine in Caelid, so I ended up looking up where the site of grace was and just got the hell out of there. Now that I'm much stronger I need to return there for a proper explore of that mine and maybe not dying to that big centipede thing.

That was the first place I went to after finishing tutorial. I've never figured out that teleport works outside the dungeon so I ended up going back on foot to Limgrave. Thought this game was way too hard

I always rolled away from every chest after I opened it and evaded like 4 different traps that way so this is actually the first of these shorts I can't personally relate to :D Well until the part where I arrived there by foot and found out that caelid sucks even if you aren't level 5-10.

I learned the roll away trick after this first chest. That said, at this point I usually will roll away, watch the chest close itself back up, and then open it again to let it teleport me away. It helps knowing that the site of grace is typically reasonably close to wherever the chest dumps you out. I found the one chest that took me to Leyndell and I was beyond relieved that 1) the site of grace was really close and 2) I wasn't immediately attacked and could just peacefully leave after a little poke around the area.

Elden Ring is a great game. I did take the Caelid chest my first Playtrough. And that experience helped me realize… that Elden Eing enemy rune drop is busted. I kill enemies in an area several levels beyond me yet the rune drop can barely buy me throwing knifes from Kale! Add that to the insanely overpriced smithing stones at release and you realize that Miyazaki took economy classes at Venezuela!

As much as I enjoyed this there is one thing missing that would have been the cherry on top. When I found this chest I walked out of the hut and was immediately murdered by the things that shoot over 9000 projectiles at you. Once I respawned in the hut I immediately attempted to nope the fuck out of there via fast travel. Which you can't do until you activate the grace because Fromsoft thought of that. I'm pretty sure most of us who were surprised by that chest in the early game had about the same experience. Where is the panic fast travel attempt Carbot?!

Grabbing the grace won't actually let you warp out, until the boss is dead you can't warp out of a cave/catacomb. Thanks to eventually learning this however it helped me realize whether or not I've completed a cave before when I warp to it again. And yes I'm pretty sure most people tried to panic warp out after they realize how outclassed they are, in fact this trap is the reason I learned you can't warp out of caves XD

@@Trygorn For the specific chest that teleports you to Caelid you don't have to kill a boss. The trigger that unlocks fast travel is resting at the grace point.

if you got caught in the trap, i believe they set your spawn there, in the hut. thats why even if you died, you return there, also the same scenario with the volcano manor virgin abductor. They also give you a debuff with crossed out grace icon that prevent you to use teleport with map, until you rest on grace outside of the kidnap zone. The best thing they could potentially add to the game is a status effect icon explanation page.
