I remember her visit for this interview. Bea actually traveled across to Windsor, Ontario Canada for a visit to buy some western/country clothing from the shop next to my mother's chocolatier shop in downtown Windsor. Her visit caused quite the stir and we heard all about it for days!!!! Good times...
@keetahbrough Жыл бұрын
I was working at a place called Windsor Western Wear, in downtown Windsor, Ontario, Canada.. located directly across Detroit River. Imagine my surprise when Bea Arthur walked into my store and started browsing. She didn't act like she expected to be recognized, so I didn't approach her that way. I acted like a saleslady, and asked her if she was looking for anything in particular. She had a niece or nephew that had a birthday coming and she was looking for ideas. As soon as she gave me the opening, I showed her the store lol. I think that was my way of acknowledging her celebrity status because I didn't normally do that for regular customers LOL I do remember we had a moment in that I met her eyes, and she knew I knew that we knew who she was and I wasn't bugging her about it. She mentioned she was in Detroit to do a show, whatever that meant, and I"m going to say this was ths show she did. And, in regards to her size. They always comments that she's a big lady, but I looked down at her. Not status wise lol But she was shorter then me, I"m almost 5'8, and she didn't look like a big lady. To me, that meant that Rose and Blanche were TINY women. Anyways, she's the only celebrity I ever met and although we spent a tiny bit of time in each others company I didn't act weird. which i'm super grateful for lol. She was very gracious, too, about me showing her everything we had lol.. very gracious. ^_^ I was only 22, then.

Bea Arthur was so amazing one of the best actresses ever. My Mother in law was Bea Arthur’s twin the voice the style of dress everything. Everyone called her Maude her name was Barb but she was always Maude. My mother in law was 6 ft. Tall. My children loved to watch the golden girls and have cheesecake hoping they would eat one on the show. I miss Bea Arthur no one can compare to her.

I have to say that was a terrible show. Nothing against Bea Arthur which was the only reason I watched it but the two hosts were not very good.
@michaelholman517minKC Жыл бұрын
I agree. Those hosts just kept stepping all over each other and tried to push their own agendas. When you have three celebrities on, they are supposed to be the stars. And especially in the first two segments, I'm sure that Bea Arthur (who was famously shy) felt like she was getting double teamed by these two women who wouldn't allow anyone to breathe. This was a good get for the station, but they fumbled the golden opportunity away. This could have be done so much better.........

i truly believe bea was a bit shortsighted in her decision to leave the golden girls after 7 seasons. to know that EVERYONE, cast and crew, wanted to continue for 1 or 2 more seasons is sad. obviously her decision must be respected but she should’ve looked to the future and pushed through knowing how much joy would be brought to millions of people for decades after her passing
