I’m just loving how she nails that 90s aesthetic. Seriously. If this came out in 1999, every alternative rock radio station would be playing this. It totally fits in with songs of that era too. Do a search for “alternative rock 1999” and shuffle. If you don’t get any nu-metal bullshit or electronica, you’ll probably find yourself listening to an alternative rock song. And it fits in. Props to her.

It's funny how much back and forth between 90s and 2000s influences are being cited here, since the chorus instantly brings "Miserable" by Lit to mind, a 1999 song. Either way, I've been binging and this is all good stuff!

Being asian, filipino and into alt/rock, it's a different seeing someone up there who's living your teenage fantasies having them look like you! She makes me feel like i'm 14 again banging my head to All American Rejects and Smashing Pumpkins and sending out flyers for people to join my band HAHAHA

Taiis Loves You she’s in the world top Spotify because of powfu, not her own music. Tell me if she wasn’t under rated why do her best songs such as ‘are you sure’ and ‘sun more often often’ have next to nothing views compared to death bed etc, lmao. She hardly gets credit for coffee and even then i don’t believe it should be the song that she gets remembered by. The space cadet ep was easily one of the best releases last year and apart from radio 1 playing it in the middle of the night half of it is basically unheard of which is a shame considering it’s such a refreshing take on indie and it’s great that bea is moving on from bedroom pop.

As probably one of the few 30 year olds in the comments... I can tell you this sounds pretty authentically 90's... Which I think was pretty clever as the lyrics are also pretty representative of that time (& obviously relevant to so many of us now too... But the 90's was really the start of angsty lyrics for those of us screaming to be heard) Great song hun... Well done 🌹🌈🔆

Fellow 30 year old (will be 34 in a few days) and will agree. A lot of music tries, but doesn’t quite hit it. This one definitely draws me back to female rock artists of the 90s - maybe it’s the vocal tones, guitars, mixing - it definitely hits whatever it is referencing. It’s more Natalie Imbruglia than Alanis Morissette if you had to pin a reference, hovering towards the soft but still has a little bit of attitude. The singer actually has a voice that is eerily similar to a The Primitives or maybe the Bangles, which were from the 80s.

This song trips me out because my mind wants to keep relabeling it a 90's song, so i'll have past feelings and pictures with it but it was made this year! Thats the power of great music.

I love how when the '00s ended we swore we wouldn't repeat the trends and niches and now here we are 20 years later doing it, so beautifully I might add.

Most people: Music in 2020 sucks! There's no originality! Me: *cackles while listening to care*
@Siberius-4 жыл бұрын
But they could also argue that this is essentially 90s music, so it doesn't count. Heaps of music from every decade, subjectively sucks. But they all have subjectively good stuff too, including now (for pretty much all tastes).

Water “I was seven, to think about it. The fact that I still can’t forget about it.” The lyrics suggest that she was abused by someone when she was a child and that she still has a lot of lingering trauma that she’s still struggling with now. The song is about the fact that she needs to actually start opening up and getting help from people around her about her trauma. She also said in her Genius interview that the lyrics “Are you the same? I’m still the same” Are actually about her not being able to move on :(( Oh! And it’s also about the fact that she’s hesitant to ask for help because she doesn’t want people to treat her like a baby and show “fake sympathy” she wants them to actually care about her and understand what she’s been through and that yeah, she’s had it rough but that’s no reason for people to show her fake sympathy and baby her.
