The first time I heard this song I wondered why she opted to not have a bass solo but then after a couple listens I realized that the guitar solo with bass backing blends into the story by showing how she’s telling the story from her own narrowed perspective and the bass, which is powerful and very present, shows that there’s another side to the story. While the lyrics are simple it seems like it just further follows this idea that what she’s saying is just part of the story, but if you follow the bass lines you get an outward perspective on the bassist, similarly to how the listener sees the guitar solo
