Beach boat sea fishing. 130 stone 820 kg herring. Fish bait lobster crab pots Norfolk UK

Well we went again in my fathers boat, there was a good breeze, but it was going to ease as the day progressed. We shot 20 2" nylon nets in one fleet for the low water. We had a look at the gill before the end of low water, there was plenty of fish so started hauling early. The wind made it harder to haul, so it was slower, and the fish just kept increasing the further we got down the fleet, as they had been in the water longer. We got far more than we really wanted, so the market price will more than likely plummet Monday. We dont tradionally get big amounts like this until March, but the shoals of herring have turned up early this year. I think the sounder transducer is on its way out, it hasnt shown a lot of fish lately. The frequency crystals do breakdown with use, so they dont last foever.

Thanks for posting.Great to see the silver darling landing shame we dont eat them raw like the dutch wish i could buy them on Yarmouth market like they do them . kippers bloaters red herrings all great . Hopefully my auntie will sell some in her shop this week.

I don’t like the texture of the pickled ones, prefer mine fried or kippers. It is a shame we don’t each as many as the Dutch, we used to, but people don’t like the smell cooking or the bones

We only had 27kg of large herring out of that lot. Its the time of the year, they are mainly spents. Roll on the spring when we have more species to aim for.

I have fished herring here in canada we fished 24 hours a day for two days straight. But we have a different style of cleaning the net it’s all mechanical.

@@wildwestcoast8095 Ive watched the videos of the rotary net shakers, theres a lot of fish and they do a great job of cleaning the nets. Ive just made a small net shaker, but I havent tried it out yet

October to December here. Nearly all the herring have a high oil content and full of roe
