Help Me Rhonda - Beach Boys @ The Rose Music Center, Huber Heights, Ohio 8-6-15. Select the HD option for better picture and sound. John Cowsill was popular in the 60s, drummer and vocals with his siblings, The Cowsills. Now drumming with the Beach Boys. He is amazing!!! Many close ups of John as requested. Enjoy!

......... Skid Roper here ....... as a drummer myself, I really appreciate how John Cowsill is faithful to both Hal Blaine AND Dennis Wilson in playing just what is needed for each song !

Saw John drumming at a Beach Boys concert 7-2017. He was facing the sun in 100 degree heat, but he was banging on relentlessly, just like a true rock star!

I love John's drumming, he's so into the beat of the song and one with the drum kit its a joy to behold. John's not a super technical player, more like he muscles his way through the song and everyone just has to follow along to his beat. I just saw the Beach Boys this past week in Calgary at the Calgary Stampede and all I want to do now is find videos of John to study how he does it.

I totally agree with you. I went to watch the BB in Brisbane on their 50yr celebration tour. Once I noticed the drummer I just could hardly stop watching him!! His energy & enthusiasm was so mesmerizing - I actually thought he was a young guy the way he moved around euth his hair flying everywhere lolz. I looked him up later only to discover he is from a fairly famous family who's songs I use to listen to as a kid! Love tge songs he sings in the BB especially Darling 🤩

John does it by totally relaxing and letting his muscles and joints just swing while he speak/sings normally. I know this because I had to learn how to play piano and sing relaxed as a kid,

Heres an interesting fact, John is actually playing like Hal Blaine did on the original song. Hitting the floor tom and the Snare at the same time.

branaa09 John plays a lot of songs on the floor tom like that! Like Wouldn't Be Nice which Hal also played that way. John is one foe playing these songs live on stage how they originally were on the record unlike any other like drummer they've had. He even plays California Girls how it originally was! Myself as a drummer who also loves when songs are played the original way it always bugged the hell out of me the way Mike Kowalski played the California Girls intro. He bashed out the keyboard line on his crash cymbals rather than doing the original ride part!

I agree.. I love it done the original way. John was my drumming inspiration in the 60's.

I have been drumming since 1985 and watching John play is really opening my eyes. I have always felt like I am going to hell if my stick misses the hi hat on a single 16th note. It is fun to watch him play and really sheds light on how the stuff was originally done. I am enjoying this very much.

Thank you for watching! I started drumming in the early 70's. John was one of my favorites and was an inspiration. Nice to have another drummer comment on John's drumming :-)

I’m surprised his hair doesn’t get in his way. Still he’s a hellofa drummer. I remember his drumming while in early years of the Cowsills. No thanks to their Dad but the kids should have been bigger than they were. I don’t know bout the acting part but I have seen little Susan in a couple dance numbers with Buddy Ebson. She was like the total professional. I could see them on a weekly tv series. I would gladly watch episodes of The Cowsill Family in place of The Partridge Family. Would Barry have been the wise alec like Bonaduce’s chactacter of Danny? Maybe Susan? Maybe they would take turns?
