Beach Camping- Robert Moses State Park NY

For a small annual fee you can camp right on the beach from April until December. There are few other beaches as well, but Robert Moses State Park and Democrat Point are my go to places for beach camping all summer long!

Haven't been to Democrat point since the mid 70s. WE used to bring fire wood and have a bon fire and take in the Summer night. Someone always making the appearance of working a fishing pole. LOL WE never stayed over though. Man how the dunes and drive-able trails have changed. There is NOTHING like it and the memories will last your kids their entire lifetimes. Fresh fish always made it even better!

We boondock it here, sore thumb, Gilgo too. Thumb is very quiet and peaceful at night thanks to the bay and protection from demo. Maybe we will see you on the sand this season. I rock a army green tundra trd pro. I have an ikamper skycamp.

They actively state they do not allow camping, fire, bbq, etc. has this been an issue? They can suspend your permit for this.

Bravo ! Great campsite, great set up and amenites, must have been wonderful for your family. A fantastic refuge from the mainland , I lived in North Babylon during the early 70's and spent many a day at Robert Moses just a short drive on the Southern State Pkwy from Greenwood drive. It was like living in the country back then. Thanks , great memories : D

hey man, love your post. I've been at wildwood and wanted to camp out right at the beach. I have all the equipment and outer beach 4x4 permit for Suffolk .. do you have to make a reservation or anything? you can just go there and spend the night? I want to do some overnight fishing

Just go there, they let you in after 5pm. As long as you have permit and equipment just get a spot your heart desires and chill.

Finally bought my rooftop tent, which permit did you buy specifically? On the website there are multiple different types including "4x4 Fishing, 4x4 Surfing, Stargazing, Night/Sport Fishing, Camp Hero Fishing, Regional SCUBA-Diving, Nighttime Photography, Metal Detecting" Which one would i need to camp overnight

Check out this website for all the info you need to obtain a permit www.suffolkcountyny.gov/Departments/Parks/Things-To-Do/Outer-Beach-Access and for the exact location, just head to Robert Moses State Park and after the last bridge at the roundabout take the first right and just go all the way down the road until you get to the entrance for 4x4 beach access. thanks for watching!

That is right you need night fishing permit

That's really cool! I'm the one who registered a permit with a 4x4 truck to fish on the beach for one night with my father. What do you need to drive into Moses Beach and fish overnight? Do I need to make a reservation?

No reservation needed just head there after 5pm and you can spend the night and the next day.

You can drive close by water, park there but can’t drive on the dunes.

No, you would just have to pay an entry fee to the beach, but you won’t be able to drive on the beach.

It does not specify as the actual permit is for night fishing; I have seen ppl with regular tents. I have used ground tent too. So it’s both.

No regular tents. Tent has to be off of the ground. Also not sure how he has it but wood fires not allowed. Propane fire pits only.

I was under the impression one can not build a fire and camp out on the beach while using a fishing permit. Maybe Park Rangers do not enforce the rules ? Appreciate and enjoyed your video .

You can get it from any of the state park offices. There is one at Robert Moses. It’s a fishing license.
