Good video! the pouting seem to indicate the absence of decent cod (or Bass) I have rarely caught bait fish when large ones are present. very annoying when you want them for bait! We had some great catches at Dungeness in the 70's and 80's. My biggest beach cod was 17lb - October 83- long before I had cameras and video to record it in situ!
@seaangling5 жыл бұрын
Kerry, thank you for the kind comment and I hope to keep making more videos as I learn. A 17lb cod off the beach must have been an epic tussle.

only had a few cod of the big beach but they have all fell to small baits ( biggest around 6ib) single blow lug and a squid head or small sliver of squid on a 1/0 with a 4/0 behind the worm ( dont put the top hook through the worm use it more to stop the worm moving pouting may take the bait but if it does theres the bigger hook there waiting for something to come take the pouting. found during an august trip for sole and bit rag was a bad choice the straps seamed to love the worms switched to a single black and the straps vanished.

Great video. Although I recommend either fishing during the day further towards Portland or use a self hooking livebait rig for the bigger Cod.
@seaangling5 жыл бұрын
nemesisslr , thank you for the tips. This was only the third time I have fished Chesil and it is a relatively new mark for me, I’m still learning. Interesting to hear more about the self hooking live bait. We did see small fish driven up onto the beach on a previous trip and had a lot of success using those as bait.
@nemesisslr5 жыл бұрын
@@seaangling No worries. Chesil can be a cruel mistress. One day it fishes great and the next you are lucky to see a dogfish. I guess I have fished about 600 hours there. Ferrybridge is my fave mark as I have caught so many species there. I once caught a 4lb Cod in the middle of summer while after Triggerfish. The different sections fish better for different fish. Abbotsbury, where you fished is the popular spot for Cod. Although I find further east much better and deeper. A self hooking livebait rig is how I catch most of the Cod from Chesil. I use a normal pulley rig and put a pennell rig setup. It has a 4/0 viking hook at the top and a size 2 at the bottom. you put a small worm bait on to catch a small whiting or pout and just leave it out till you get a bigger bite. 2 issues I have are with the method though. One is getting a bigger fish than you expect to be a good livebait. The second is fishing Chesil with it leaves you open to a big old Conger taking the livebait.
@seaangling5 жыл бұрын
nemesisslr I’ve not considered that way to use a live bait before but will try to find time to give it a go sometime soon. That would make a good video.

@@seaangling Its how I have caught most of my 6-7lb and PB 8lb 3oz one. I started doing it after my friend had a 14lb 5oz on it from Chesil.

@seaangling2 жыл бұрын
West Bexington, Abbotsbury and Fleet are the ones most recognise. Head away from the crowds and aim for Ferry Bridge or keep walking past the Dragons Teeth. The shingle trudge is difficult so pack light.

Hi Mark, enjoy your postings. Thinking of switching to continental style rods. You seam very pleased with your twin tip rods, would you please tell who makes them, and what model they are? Many thanks Jon
@seaangling5 жыл бұрын
Hi Jon, both my buddy and me use these rods with fixed spool reels and they are performing past their cost but I have only had mine a short while. The length, weight rating and cost were all factors for me and these were on offer when I bought them recently. They are Shakespear K2 Extreme Black 4.50m. I used the lighter tip last week and there is a video on the channel "Weston Shore Flounder" and they performed well there as well despite their length. Last night we fished a surf beach mark at distance and we were thumping them out at range. I can't judge distance in the dark but they were a fair way out judging by the time it took to retrieve. I hope that helps.

nice video,i see you have a Agiltiy holdall does that carry the imax shelter ok
@seaangling5 жыл бұрын
Hi John, the Agility holdall isn't long enough for the IMAX shelter or my trip-pod. It does come with an external pocket at the bottom and 2 straps on the side but if you use them it upsets the balance when carrying. I tend to just put my rods in the holdall and strap the shelter and tripod on the side using 2 bungees.
@johncady85 жыл бұрын
@@seaangling ok thanks.
@seaangling5 жыл бұрын
@@johncady8 thinking more about your question I went out this morning and tried a different way of loading the shakespear quiver. If you undo a zip at the bottom you can make the bag longer but i still thought it wouldn't't be big enough, I was wrong. I managed to get 2 rods, my trip-pod and the IMAX shelter inside. The only bit that wouldn't fit was the very top of the shelter as it has a bend in it. It took everything else though and about 90% of the shelter which surprised me.
