Hi lovely to hear from you! Never had the pleasure of fishing there though I’ve heard all the stories from years ago I bet it was a magical place when the big cod were in!!! Chesil a good early cod venue when conditions are right which fortunately this time they were!!! Thanks for watching cheers ian

Hi lovely to hear from you! Glad you thought my bait setup looked nice….. and fortunately the cod thought so too!!! I find a bit of bait elastic on the fresh lug holds it together nicely for longer and stops the small fish pecking it to bits! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment cheers ian

You have my upmost respect for keeping some fish and not all of them, therefore I have liked and subscribed to your channel, I am a lure fisherman in the Irish republic but the more I see this winter bait fishing makes me want to have a go myself, especially when the bass start to get scarce.
@ianclarkfishing Жыл бұрын
Hi Keith lovely to hear from you!!! Thank you for your kind words. I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video it makes the effort all worthwhile. I too enjoy lure fishing for bass but unfortunately the good marks are a fair drive from home though occasionally we have caught some nice fish on Chesil when they chase the whitebait and sprats early morning so I usually have a lure rod in my bag! I hope you manage to get out in winter for a few cod I’m not familiar with Eire sea fishing unfortunately! Appreciate you taking the time to comment! Cheers ian
@gosnest Жыл бұрын
Hello Ian, i was hoping to fish with bait for Bass, they can be caught here all year round but it is difficult with lures as i think they are less focused on bait fish and lean more to bottom feeding on crabs and worm. I have recently been reading james leakyboots Battys book "the song of the solitary bass fisherman" he catches some beauties with his own approach, a real good read. Looking forward to some more of your content.
@ianclarkfishing Жыл бұрын
@gosnest we have a sandy storm beach ten minutes from home in the Bristol Channel which me and Chris fish year round. Cod in winter and bass the rest of the year…. Very poor visibility so it’s lugworm first choice bait…. If you’re interested look back at previous videos of how we fish it…. Including a fantastic double figure bass for Chris!!! I hope you enjoy it!!! Tight lines mate!!👍🎣

I usually fish from Weymouth pier across to West Bexington and anywhere in between but recently I’ve been looking at Abbotsbury as an option but not fished it yet. I was actually there last Thursday teatime and walked down the same route as you taking my dogs a walk to the devils teeth and back to the car park so probably walked past you on the other side of the bank. Keep up the great content especially along the fantastic Chesil beach and I’m looking forward to you next episode.

Hi ian you ok pal, i bet your wingman was devo'ed when you told him what was going on , on your session. I can't wait for another 3 weeks and we shiould start seeing them doing there anual run up the Humber. My bait freezer is rammed with raps of blacks and squid ready hahaha. Well done ian you deserved a red letter day. Some lovely codling.

Ah Carl he wasn’t a happy bunny but I was sad too as it’s lovely to share days like that with your mate!! I hope you have a good winter cod season I seem to remember you saying they were a bit thin on the ground last year?? Thanks as always for watching cheers ian

Hard work, a long walk, and being out there when most are doing something else or at home, funny the more you fish the more luck you have. Well deserved session, reminds of Lt. Dan in the Oscar winning film Forrest Gump, except I didn't hear you shouting at the weather.

Hi lovely to hear from you again!! I definitely picked the right day to go for sure!!! The weather was nice so I wasn’t going to shout at it 😂😂 thanks for watching cheers ian

Hi Richard I’m so pleased that my video has inspired you to get your rods out in search of a cod or two! I’ve sent the ones I didn’t catch east to Essex they should be there shortly! Good luck in your quest and thanks for watching cheers Ian

Cracking session Ian, well done buddy. We've not yet bumped in to each other as yet however, Aron did tell me that you'd been in to his shop just 1/2 hour before me last month. Hope to be able to say hello in person in the future. Tight lines.

For the youngsters......Dragging it up the shingle 20yds ( which is like sandpapering the slimeboff it) then grabbing it by the gill covers with your fingers up inside the gills causing gill damage wouldn't be ok if it's going back If you're going to keep it which presumably you did then I guess there's an argument that it doesn't matter. But I hope it was quickly dispatched. Nice codling. If you get one there's often more they do shoal especially after winter storms. Get your next bait rug ready to unclip re clip while youre in range. 8 fat lugworm on a one hook clip down rig and 3/0 Aberdeen hook is the one.
@ianclarkfishing3 күн бұрын
Hi thanks for watching Clearly the fish I was going to keep were the ones you’re talking about…. I’m always respectful of the fish and gently return any not for the table! Cheers Ian

Hi Bob lovely to hear from you!!! I’ve looked at the weather forecast and really don’t think Chesil will be fishable for at least another week there doesn’t seem to be any day when the wind will drop enough but I’m definitely keeping my eye out as forecasts can be wrong!! Thanks for taking the time to comment much appreciated cheers ian

Bet Chris was happy missing that! 😂 what mainline do you have to get in past the backwash?
@ianclarkfishing Жыл бұрын
Yes really sorry Chris not there to share the experience ☹️ I use 16lb mainline but also 100lb braid shockleader about four times the length of the rod and if I can get it on the reel when a fish is in the surf I feel more confident of getting it in…. Provided I have a good hookhold!! I do slacken off the drag a bit too so the backwash can take a big of line. Cheers ian

Cracking session Ian. Good effort that. Did look difficult getting them over that surge near the beach. What rod are you using mate? Don’t recognise them. Look good though
