Beach Fishing using a Walk-Back Method | TAFishing

Beach Fishing is on the increase in England and the UK! Graeme heads to Somerset to fish using the "Walk Back" method. The Bristol Channel has some of the biggest tides in the world, meaning the tide comes in, and goes out very far (and quickly!). So when fishing a flood tide, rather then wind your rod in everytime and move your bait, you simply undo the bail arm on your fishing reel (or loosen the drag) and walk your rods back up the beach and tighten up to the lead again. Hi Graeme great video as always. Minus 10 seriously cold on the beach! What I want to know is whenever I clean fish I frequently find crabs so why are hard crabs not great as bait, smoothies yes but I have only ever caught one bass on hard crab. Have you had any success with hard crabs Alan

I used this method at Woolcome many years ago for small eyed ray and the one fish landed came when I had only about 1 meter of line left on my reel, no way I'd have ever cast that far!

Brilliant, as ever Graeme. Quick Q. I know Craig is a super angler, and very conscientious when it comes to fish care, so I'm wondering why the female, egg-laden cod was killed? Any particular reason? I was thinking perhaps it wasn't deliberate, as he seemed to regret the fact. Many thanks. TAFS rules! :)

+MARC EDEN the Cod had taken the hook down and it was probably gut hooked, once a fish is gut hooked they generally die. Here in NZ we use re-curve hooks which stop this from happening as a lot of our fish have size limits.

Ik how you feel mate that is a right pane in the arse when that happens! All you need to do is tie a good strong knot that is attached to your lead and shockleader, then gently pull the line with your hands and the lead should eventually come out of the mud/sand. Hope this helps!

Ok so I'm a novice at the sea fishing game question please the only time to strike is a slack line is this correct

No,any indication with a pull forward on the rod tip is the usual indication of fishy interest.A slack line bite is with a bigger fish that is capable of dislodging the weight thus creating slack line.....you then then to wind down fast to take all the slack up and tighten on the fish.
