One quick tip regarding the sharp ends on the zip-ties. Instead of melting with a lighter, use an emory board (nail file) to smooth them down. No. risk of damage from flame or melting plastic. Smooth as butter 😄

How long have you been Surf Fishing love I’ve been Surf Fishing for 45 years so I’d say I no some thing about it. I find starting my cast sideways to my body I cast out and when I let go of the line it is straight in front of my body the cast is very accurate and the line goes out a long way. Regards Laurie. Thank you Courtney for those great tips especially about not having your drag too loose; there is a lot of force generated in a very hard cast especially with heavier sinkers. I just want to emphasize safety first so when making any cast where your rod and setup goes behind you in an overhand cast, always check behind you to make sure there is no one behind you or any obstacles that you can get hung up in. If you do not have a "power casting trigger cannon" device, you can always use some kind of glove that covers your entire index finger or use waterproof athletic tape to tape up the 1st two sections of your index finger.
@GeeDubz13
@GeeDubz13 3 жыл бұрын
I’ve also noticed some comments about how many wraps to use with your “Breakaway BC1 Cannon Cast” device. For me, a single wrap is good enough and works perfectly. There are so many variables that will determine the point of slippage but I believe the biggest factor is probably the location of where your power casting trigger is installed. I believe you’ll get more hold the closer you can get to where the top of your spool is. That said, the grips and design of your rod may dictate where it can actually be installed so on some of my rods, it’s not even an option to use this device. I’ve actually heated up the bottom of my power casting trigger so I can bend up the bottom so it can be installed lower and right on top of the top edge of my upper reel seat on my Okuma Cedros Surf CSX rod. Other factors like different manufacturers of this product will have different tolerances and angles of taper on the knob you wrap your line around, different lines like braid, mono, flourocarbon, in different weights will determine how thick, flexible, and slippery the line will be so just do what works for you and your equipment; there is no one right way for everyone.

Hi young lady. Thanks for the tips. I would like to point out a couple of things. Firstly, the Breakaway cast cannon will work fine with just one wrap. Once the line is trapped it's trapped. There is no need for 2 wraps. Secondly, the rod butt looked to long for you to achieve the greatest efficiency. Ideally from the reel seat with the arm fully extended horizontally the rod butt should be level with your chest. Thirdly, more power is generated if the tip of the rod is lower than the butt to create a greater casting arc. The real power will come from a powerful pull down of the left arm whereas most people seem to focus on the weaker pushing motion of the right arm. Keep up the good work.

Why dont you use a South African low mount surf rods which are the pinnacle when it comes to bullying a massive shark. The Assassin, Hearty Rise, Blue Marlin, Daiwa Saltiga and Okuma Precision and Makira rods are some of the best rods everdeveloped for rock and surf fishing. They all have been fitted as standard with the bionic finger. South Africa has been pioneers for almost 50 years now when it comes to rock and surf fishing. The non return slide, dingle dangle amd nylon grapnel are some of the innovations that has come out of South Africa.

I use Mono. Works great. Like baitcasting reels, people tell me I should switch while they are untangling their line, I'm fishing with my spin cast. I try to simplify and often the fish are right in close while we try casting to the other side of the pond. I still can't comprehend the tightening of the drag? When the bail is open, the tightness of the darg doesn't matter and once you close the bail your finger won't be near and you want to loosen the darg anyway. Thanks for the video.

Spinning reels were made for those who can’t figure out the physics of a conventional reel…. Think about this,… why the hell do you really need a bail…?????… there are baliless reels..! I’ve always cast with a conventional reel… always! Multiplier reels are the trick to casting long distances… not spinners …. Braided line and a shock leader is key…! I too swing a 12’ heaver … St. Croix Avid Surf med heavy fast action to be exact…and I’ve been whipping a 3 oz. Bucktail 100 yards more than I need to because our Stripers attack lures 25 yards or less from where you cast from….. Distance means nothing if the fish are not biting…. Distance matters only if you’re in a competition….! 🤙😎👍

I only recently started getting into surf fishing and only just realized that using a 12' rod is nothing like a typical spinning rod like I expected. Something that helped me was treating my cast more like how you'd swing an axe. And I need to get myself one of those cast cannon things, it looks like a serious game changer

Until today I didn’t know what a cast cannon is. Now I have one on order from Amazon! Thanks. I’m just getting into big rod surf casting. I bought a 12’ Okuma and I’m using a Daiwa BG5000 with 30# spider wire braid. I haven’t fished it yet. But tomorrow I’m going. I took it out on the big field at my house and tried casting using your method. Oh. My. God! Oh. My. God!!! I didn’t do any measurements but it seemed like I was casting a 2oz pyramid weight a MILE. Glad I got a big reel with a lot of line on it. Where I fish the beach this will be a great combo. I liked the style you show in this video. I found myself trying to talk my way through it listening to you in my head. Haha. Thank you.

99% of all fisherman use only the upper part of the body. Think about driving a golf ball and only using your shoulders or swinging a baseball bat and starting the swing the same way. Neither ball will go as far as you would like. Now start your swing, drive or cast with your hips and add another 25% to your distance.

Nice video if you want to throw the surf pole the farthest. We hold the rod horizontally before casting (not tilted), the load from the tip is about 25-30% of the length of the rod. The hand is stretched behind the back, the other is slightly bent. With a swing of approx. 80% of the body weight, release the line approx. 45° from the surface. For a rod 4 m + (4.2 or 4.5 m) load 70% W.C. you can reach 120 m and more with the rod (it also depends on the strength and direction of the wind). On a large lake, without wind, with lead 150g 4 m surf rod (for carp = no fun) 110 to 130 m. Carp 12 kg - 24 kg. Good luck Eric. P.S. So that the fishing line does not cut your finger with the weight of the load. Use this smart gadget: Surf Casting Cannon Clip Trigger Thumb. Enjoy.👍👍👋

Excellent idea about melting the zip ties, I have all mine rigged and have been cutting my hands up and in pain on scorcher days in salt water. I guess rull of thumb, leave about 1/4 inch or more to burn not to compromise the integrity of zips and they fall off when you have a big fight. Defeating the purpose.

I am a novice and have watched your videos about the uni knot and the FG knot. Because I will be fishing for fish that are 5 pounds or less, I am wondering if the FG will work for 15lb braid to 10lb mono. The videos give me the impression that the mono needs to be fatter than the braid. Thanks.
@rfdsrd
@rfdsrd 2 жыл бұрын
IMO the FG knot is a really good one as long as it's tied CORRECTLY. There is a practice learning curve for that knot and failure to tie it properly will guarantee lost lures and rigs. It is also harder to tie with light lines. Better to use a modified Alberto, or a uni-to-uni, or a 4 to 6 turn surgeon for main line braid to a shock or bite leader. For fish in the 5lb or under category, I'd use 10# braid with a 15lb mono shock leader that will take 3 or 4 turns around the spool and yet will allow the payload (lure or bait) to drop down to 1/2 or 3/4 of the rod length. In doing so, your casting trigger finger on the spinner won't be affected by the braid and you can add a mono or floro bite leader to the shocker leader with a simple uni knot. If casting distance is required, you really need to *learn proper casting techniques*. This video showcases a very basic thump cast that will not yield serious 100yd and way beyond distances.

Is always 45° releasing the line. Over 45° it start dropping closer. Under 45° it still touching closer. No matter at what speed and strength is been used. Another tip- - lower hand pull and upper hand push. - is all about leverage and timing. - additional strength will be a step or 2. - which is comfortable. - and it takes time.

A longer drop will get you better distance. I use a sinker drop of at least half the distance between my rod tip and reel. For floppier rods I shorten the drop, It is best to experiment and find what is comfortable for your rod and reel combo, what you do not want is the sinker snagging the ground behind you.

I like a one piece rod so I’m limited to a 9’ or10’ rod. Should I go with a MH or Heavy action? MF, fast or Ex. fast tip? This would be a bait rod for Pompano, Trout and slot Reds. I would be using a 3000 or 4000 reel.

Just my opinion as there are probably plenty of answers to this question. Generally it depends on how much total weight you are throwing out (lures or bait and lead sinker). If throwing bait, the sinker weight depends on surf conditions and sinker shape to hold the bottom after casting. A 10 ft rod will probably max out around 3 ozs of weight depending on power of the rod. Longer rods can handle more weight. My experience is that it frequently can take 3 or 4 ozs of weight to hold bottom with a pyramid sinker. For harsher surf conditions, use a Sputnik type weight. For throwing lures, a MH rod with a fast tip is probably best. If throwing bait, a Heavy power and MF tip would probably be best. If throwing both, get a rod for what you usually throw. I would probably go with a 4000 series reel and 20 lb braided line, but a 3000 reel would also work. Your mileage may vary.

I can't cast far when I'm using cut up fish as bait. Also, when I try to cast far the shrimp and sand flea fling off the hook.

Hi, Good video but here some more tips from me for even getting further castings. 1-first place your hand on the reel and stretch your right arm, then place your left hand in the middle of your chest. That’s the best distance between your hands for good ending your cast. 2-don’t bend your right arm when your throwing and pull with your left hand ending high beside your left breast. 3-always stay looking up when you throw, al the way. Excellent tutorial for a long rod. (I’m sure everyone is telling you you’re holding the rod at 90 degrees to the water, not 45. And from a language snob: Further by degree, Farther by distance.
