Hi looking for some advice please, I’m thinking of starting metal detecting, do you have to be a member of a club or have to have some insurance of some kind to go on Southend beach? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi Cherie Beaches are either Crown Estate or private. You do not need to have insurance or be in any club to detect on a Crown Estate beach. Go on the website of your local Council to see what their rules are. Believe me, all Councils are different. Being a member of a club and having insurance is a good idea though as it brings you into contact with many like-minded people who will give you any advice you seek. Insuranance with the National Council For Metal Detecting (NCMD) is less than £20 per annum. I hope this helps Darren
