Watch: Monster Cloudbreak Swell from the Paddle Perspective

May 27, 2018, was an out-of-the-ordinary Pacific Ocean swell. Here, the Australian surfer Anthony Walsh takes you into the Cloudbreak meat locker as he, first, records the Fijian Tevita Gukilau inside a twenty-foot barrel while a ten-foot gun goes over the falls and, then, pulls into a clean wide set himself. Point of View footage that will hammer you in the chest and steal your breath.

I grew up surfing SoCal and getting barreled is so awesome! I’m 62, live in Oklahoma, so, unfortunately, I don’t surf anymore. Cloudbreak has been on my bucket list for years. My best friend went a few years back and said that wave is intense. The water is only about 2’ deep in front of the wave. Coral reef below! This guy makes it look easy! And, yes, that was one of his “waves of a lifetime”!

Only got one chance to be in waves like this in my life. Around 1990 at Bellows beach on Oahu of all places. I only had my boogie board with a couple of friends but the break lasted a good three hours. Unreal feeling like your being pushed 30 mph or so.

This is absolutely breathtaking. I remember when I was a little girl my oldest brother would go to Galveston and surf. Goodness that was long ago. I'm 50 something and he's heading to the big 70 in a few months GOD willing. I remember that surfing was really big and cool. You'd see all the surfboards standing in the sand. I'm talking about beautiful boards not to mention Moms and Dads out there supporting their sons. It was AWSOME. Real family time. Where did those days go. Everyone is so so busy now. 😵

I've seen a lot of surfing footage but this video is breath taking. I'm 48. Tried to surf a few times as an ex skateboarder i thought it 'd be easy. It took 6 life guards to get me out. Another time i tried to take on 10 foot waves without any experience at all. It's great to be a fool.. i did catch a wave or two a few days later. Never did it since then but if i get to a place where there's waves i will unleash my suicidal tendencies again.

If you've ever surfed big waves, you'd come to realize the power of "just water" including the force of which that can pick up entire buildings and destroy entire towns with "just water" that can hit you with tremendous force and do ridiculously dangerous things to your body. But, you already know that because you're a surfer, right? LOL

Cloudbreak is one of the most beautiful breaks in the world. It's not as big as Nazare or as dangerous as Bonzai Pipeline or as thick as Teahupoo, but it is just a beautiful wave. Just a clean, tall, gracefully curling bright blue break. My favorite.
