All your ropes look beautiful and so elegant. 😍 I use slip stitch and single crochet stitch to make my ropes. What do you mean by double bead crochet? Is there a video tutorial to demonstrate that. Thank you in advance. 🙏🏾
@rhondarohaly Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your compliment on my bead ropes. Someone else came up with the name double bead crochet. When I was trying to learn how to do any kind of bead crochet, I found so many different names for what appeared to be the same thing. That’s what prompted me to make a total of 6 videos on KZbin. There is a video by me named, “Starting a Double Bead Crochet Rope (aka Euro Bead Crochet too). If you find the time to watch it, hopefully you’ll understand what I’m talking about. You may already be doing your bead crochet ropes this way and know it by a different name. Thank you for your question. Happy bead crocheting!!!

Hi, I would gladly send you the step by step instructions, but it was a pattern I purchased online so it’s not mine to share. I’ve looked for the instructions so I could share with you the place I purchased it and I must have misfiled them because I can’t find them anywhere. I do recall that their instructions were for a necklace and I altered the amount of beads to make a bracelet instead. It was a Egyptian design, so maybe you can search online for a bead crocheted Egyptian necklace and go from there. I’m so sorry I can’t be of more help to you.

Thank you for the video! It was really helpful. On another note, I made the folly of purchasing size 15 beads when wanting to try this. Do you have any advice? I'm not sure about hook size, thread size, and what type of method I should do.
@rhondarohaly Жыл бұрын
Wow, size 15! Very tiny indeed. How I wish I could help you with some foolproof advice on thread or hook size. I’ve never used any beads that size. I mean you’d want a very fine, but strong thread that will hold up. I’ve used invisible thread on other projects, not bead crochet though. I’m curious if they make a very fine strong nylon thread in a color that you’d be able to see and would work with your project. Whatever hook would work with that is what I’d try. I’m so sorry that I just can’t think of a really fine thread that won’t eventually break on you. Even my nylon thread idea isn’t very good since it would more than likely be a nightmare to try to crochet with. Sorry to not be of more help to you. I’m glad you enjoy my videos. They were born out of my own personal frustration when trying to learn bead crochet and finding so many conflicting instructions. Once I’d figured things out….I decided to share. Good luck!

Thank you for your videos...some of the most informative I have watched. I just started crochet beading and was disappointed in the seed beads I purchased. Can you tell me what brand of seed beads you purchase for the #11. They are very uniform.

I’m glad you found my videos so helpful! Unfortunately, I got all my #11 seed beads at a shop in Oberlin, Ohio. It’s name was Bead Paradise. I just learned that they have closed their doors for good. I will have to be looking for a new source myself. I’m so sorry that I don’t have a name of a good uniform brand. Bead Paradise sold them by the hank so I could see every bead to know how uniform they were. There was never a name brand on them. I’m so sorry that I can’t be of more help to you. Please don’t let this discourage you. Hopefully wherever you live you’ll find a shop like I did.

Your videos and comments are so helpful! I was reading through and saw that you don't like the Aunt Lydia's size 30 (which I just used on two slip stitch projects - oh no!). I was thinking about ordering the Lizbeth 40, because I need a thinner thread for single bead crochet (or double bead crochet, depending on naming). When I tried it with Aunt Lydia's 30, the thread was way too visible. Would you say Lizbeth 40 is definitely thinner? I ask because I know size can vary a bit between brands. I've also read about using top stitch thread such as Gutermann Mara 30, and saw you didn't like that. I'd be grateful for any information you have comparing the thread thicknesses. I have to order online, so I'd hate to end up with thread I won't use! Thanks!
@rhondarohaly4 жыл бұрын
J Hi! Thank you. I’m so glad my videos were helpful. I don’t have any Aunt Lydia’s 30 anymore so I can’t lay it next to my Lizbeth size 40 and 80 to check which is thinner. I am rather certain though that if the 40 isn’t any thinner the 80 definitely will be. These are the two sizes that I use exclusively. My first bracelets made using Aunt Lydia’s just fell apart. That’s the only reason I stopped using it. I tat, so that’s how I’m familiar with the Lizbeth threads. They have a tight twist that stays that way. I just learned that Handy Hands sells approximately 3 yard samples of their Lizbeth threads for 99 cents each. I’m just saying, it might be something to look into to be absolutely certain the 40 or 80 will be thin enough for you. It would also help you see the true color. Without a doubt, I know you will love the feel and strength of the Lizbeth thread! Thanks for your question. I hope I was of some help. Take care.

Hi! What thread should I use for beads number 15?
@rhondarohaly Жыл бұрын
Wow, size 15!!! That will turn out so beautiful. I’ve never used any beads smaller than 11 even though I have some size 15s. Without having any experience with this size in bead crochet, my only suggestion is to find a fine heavy duty thread. Not sewing thread though. That will wear over time from the movement of the beads and break. I use Lizbeth thread for all my bead crocheting. I get it online from Handy Hands. It’s strong, tightly woven, and I’ve never had a bead crochet project break with it. The thinnest Lizbeth thread is size 80. That’s what I use. Fingers crossed this size will fit through the holes of size 15 beads. I know there is smaller crochet thread that I’ve used for tatting edging for handkerchiefs, but it won’t hold up to the wear beads will give it.
@squirejohnson5878 Жыл бұрын
@@rhondarohaly thank you! I am using Turkish thread for beads size 11, I checked Lizdeth 80 is a little bit thinner than my thread, so I will try it, I also afraid to buy thread for sewing even though I know some people use a Jean thread ( it’s used for sewing jeans)

What you do with your length of strung beads so they don't get all tangled up? Do you wrap them around anything to keep them tangle free? I enjoyed all your videos. I've got all my beads strung and am ready to go!
@rhondarohaly3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ann, what a great question! I’m sorry I didn’t address that in any of my videos. Not always, but sometimes I wind the strung beads around a cut down white index card. I cut a slight scoop down into the middle of both the longer sides to make a depression so the strung beads stay together on the card and won’t easily slide off. Thanks for your question. Have a happy beading day!!!

What size of thread by Elizabet to buy. Thank you for your reply. If you have time could you do a video showing how to close a seed bead crochet bracelet with an invisible join? Thanking you for your reply. Patricia
@rhondarohaly2 ай бұрын
@@raymondgimay4642 Hi Patricia, Thanks for your questions. For both size 8 and 11 seed beads, I use size 40 Elizabet thread. It’s fine enough and also very tightly twisted to be strong. I have only ever done one bead crochet bangle bracelet with an invisible join. To make one just large enough to fit over my hand was a trip, and then when I did get one done, it seems to put so much pressure on it to put it on, that I decided not to make any more of them. My loss, I know. But, for all the work, it would have upset me to have it not last very long. That being said, you may feel very differently. Since I was unable to put a photo of that one white/gold bangle bracelet here in the comments, I just added a 17 second video so you can at least see what bangle bracelet I’m talking about. The instructions I used for the invisible closure were purchased from the Etsy website. The title is, “simple spiral and double reverse spiral from Etsy’s Wearable Art Emporium design by Linda Lehman. The one they show in their photo with the directions is in red/gold/silver. There are also instructions in a book entitled, “Crochet with Beads” Basic Steps and Innovative Techniques by Hazel Shake and Suzanne McNeill. In that book, the directions will be on page 29 under, Joining a Bangle Seamlessly for the Jane’s Sorbet Bangle. Both these instructions are covered under copyright laws so I cannot share any photos of them with you. The Etsy instructions can be printed from that website after purchase. The book was printed in 2015, so I think it will still be available. I know that making a video would help you so much more, but in place of that, I so hope this information will get you doing seamless joining on whatever you want. Enjoy beading!!! Rhonda

Orly Zeelon Gosh, I wish I knew the answer to your question. I only have size 40 and 80 Lizbeth thread that I use. All I can say is that if you already have the size 20 thread and 11/0 beads, try it. Your beads might not slide on the thread very easily, but if I were you, I’d go for it. Sorry I’m not more help.

@@rhondarohaly Hi Rhonda, Thank you for your reply. Actually I do not have it yet but I am interested in a metallic thread that will also be fit for larger beads. Are you familiar with any that is size 40? of course I would prefer this
@rhondarohaly4 жыл бұрын
Orly Zeelon No, I can’t say that I know of a metallic thread that is size 40. I don’t think the Lizbeth thread that I use comes in anything metallic. I use the Lizbeth thread from Handy Hands Tatting because it has a really tight twist that makes it super strong. Without that strength the beads tend to wear the thread out and then everything falls apart. Trust me, I’ve tried using other threads and always come back to the Lizbeth. I used other threads and had 2 bracelets fall apart after wearing them just 3 times. Maybe you could choose a color of Lizbeth thread and twist it together with a metallic sewing thread to get the look you want. It’s worth a try at least. I’m not sure the beads wouldn’t eventually weaken the metallic thread though and you’d end up with frayed ends showing. It’s just an idea.

I would like to know what size beading needle and crochet thread is used with 11/0 beads in some of the beaded embroidery.
@rhondarohaly5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question. I use what are called “big eye” beading needles. They are sharp on both ends and there is a big split down the middle for your thread. As far as I know they don’t come in sizes only different lengths. I got them from Amazon. Pretty much all of my bead crochet is done with size 11/0 beads, so as I showed in this video I use size 80 Lizbeth threads from Handy Hands. It is super fine but really strong. On occasion, if the beads will fit, I use size 40. Hope this helps you. Enjoy doing bead crochet! :)

How do I get instructions for a bead crochet bangle not closed round but open ?
@rhondarohaly4 жыл бұрын
Wow what a great idea! I’ve never seen any such instructions. But if it were me trying to make something like that, I’d start with making the bangle using their instructions and then put in fewer rounds of beads and end off like a non bangle. Then see if I could insert a strong thin wire inside to help keep the shape and then glue end caps on each end. Such a great idea. I’ll have to try this. Happy beading!

What brand of seed beads do you prefer and size? Toho, Myuki, or Czech
@rhondarohaly7 жыл бұрын
Gail Maltese Hi Gail, I actually use all three of these. It depends on the color I need and what I'm able to find. But my 1st choice is Toho 11/0 seed beads. 2nd choice would be the Czech 11/0. 3rd is the Miyuki Delicate 11/0. I really prefer to use the 11/0 size. I have found 10/0 though and they work very well too! Whenever I want to add a major accent, I add a larger 8/0 seed bead. There have been times that I've had to mix the three (Toho, Miyuki, Czech) in size 11/0 in one design. Honestly, I'm not a fan of doing that since the different types of the same size beads don't always lay perfectly next to each other. But then, the colors that I want sometimes leave me no other choice. I've also used 11/0 and 10/0 seed beads in one design. I used the 10/0 size in one color that was an accent color, and the slightly lifted affect turned out nicely. You have to watch your thread tension when using slightly different size beads together. Otherwise you may see too much of the thread around the larger beads and you could end up with crooked smaller beads around it. And, just in case you're wondering, I use either the size 40 or 80 Lizbeth threads in every design. Size 40 Lizbeth thread is heavier and stronger but when I've used the size 80, it's held up just as well over time. Hopefully this helps!! Thanks for your question. Happy bead crocheting :)

Deerheart Adornments Thanks for the question. I use whatever beading needle, that when threaded, will fit through my seed beads. Generally, I use size 11 seed beads and have found that the big-eye beading needles work best for me. Basically these are two needles that have had their ends soldered together so a big eye is formed in the middle. You can find them online by looking up big-eye beading needles. They are slim enough to fit through my seed beads and long enough to make them easy to handle. Happy bead crocheting to you!!!
