Nya:Weh!! I'm doing my 1st pair of moccasins for our son and have 4 more to make to gain experience on before I make my own knee high moccasins for my wedding and now I know EXACTLY which sparkling beads I want. You have no idea how much you have helped me in gaining confidence to carry on our traditional beading being a child of 2 residential school survivors who have both passed. I'm learning our ways from my husband who is a faith keeper for the Cayuga Nation and other wise elders so I can pass the knowledge on to our 5 children.

Omg. I looooove your comment! It's so good to hear you are taking the initiative in preserving your ways. I had to teach myself how to make moccasins as there was no one close to help me learn. What I learned from that experience was that I can teach myself when needed. I am so happy that my video helped in a little way. Good luck in all your future endeavors. Hahou. 😍❤

@@monac.8890 That's what I've learned also! I have so much love and respect for you because you are passing down that knowledge to us younger ones like back in the day before colonization. Our elders took us under their wing and taught us songs,hunting,beading weaving baskets etc. We're slowly getting back to who we were ment to be as a people and it's because of elders like you!

The size originally corresponded to how many could fit in an inch measurement. EXCELLENT. 11 beads in an inch = 11/0. Now the sizes vary from country to country.

When I first started beading, I was always confused about bead sizes; now it makes perfect sense. Then when you start dealing w/ wire gauges, it doesn't seem so weird, that a thick wire is a low #.

One of the most amazing helpful videos on beading, I've seen. Just starting out - still trying to plan materials and tools - and most other videos have left me scratching my head as per bead size - needles - and bead information. You hit the nail on the head with some great information. Thank you - thank you - thank you. You're great.

I was in awe just looking at those beautiful hanks of beads. I do a lot of peyote, so I buy mostly Miyuki Delicas and Toho Treasures. I do love my Czech 13/0 Charlottes, though. I like the way a peyote bracelet looks with these little guys.

Hi Mona, Thanks for posting these very informative videos! I am new to beading and am looking to do simple (as in a single strand of beads on elastic thread..lol) earrings and bracelets to compliment beaded pieces I've been given over the years. Your explanations and demonstrations are incredibly accessible and make me feel like I might be able to do a bit more intricate work, thanks! A suggestion, if I may, set up an amazon account and links in your description box, so you can benefit from your generous teaching!

Love this video. Being a relatively new beaded I find it takes a bit of money, even to get started. Just to accumulate the 8 basic “crayon colors” and gold and silver beads runs into some money. I was hoping to find a craft/hobby to take up some of my time (71 yo, retired, widow) but it has become somewhat expensive, even buying cheap beads at Walmart and Amazon. Darn. But, I will find a way to continue. Again, your video was very helpful❣️❣️❣️

I have never looked for beads there. I typically go to area bead stores or ones on the reservation I used to live when I'm visiting. Crazy Crow is great. There are Facebook groups with private sellers. I've gotten everything from beads to leather. Sometimes, I'll go on eBay. I've never purchased beads from Amazon. The best I've found online, however, is www.jillwisemandesigns.com; She has very good quality beads and very reasonable prices. Fire Mountain Gems is another good one. They're pricey, but have great sales.

Hi Mona, your work is absolutely beautiful, I have been teaching myself how to do brickstitch, but would love to learn this as well. are there patterns I can find maybe something simple at first like the bird you had in a video.
@monac.88906 жыл бұрын
vicky colburn Hi! I make all of my own designs by drawing them and even using a printout of something I've found on the internet, the trick is being mindful of how the beads are being stitched down. If your new to 2 needle or even one needle bead embrodery I would suggest doing small stuff first, to get the hang of it. Then try something like the bird. I just looked at a pic from Pintrest and drew the crow on some tear away backing. Hope This helps.

Des chill I usually only buy in person, from bedors at pow-wows or my favorite bead store in the whole world Supernaw's in Skiatook, OK. Online I've ordered from Crazy Crow trading post and Shipwreck Beads. I prefer to buy in person. I usually will only buy online of its a nessesity because there is no decent bead store within 500 miles of where I live, I stock up on beads when I visit family and order other supplies online.

Hi Mona I was just wondering what the beeswax is for?
@desireedd48035 жыл бұрын
Megan Friday It is for waxing your thread so that it doesn’t fray when it’s passing through your felt and backing. Thicker materials (like moosehide or leather) can really beat up your thread and cause it to fray. I learned this all from Mona’s videos!
