I made mask "lanyards" as well, but instead of just stringing, I make flower designs and RAW versions, which take a lot more work but I think look great too. You said when we don't make masks anymore people can use them as glasses holders, and I thought you can also clip the lobster claws together, turn them to the back and wear the lanyards as jewelry when not used for masks or glasses. That way you always have it on and not worry where it is when you need it. Thanks for your stupendous videos!

Great tutorial for making last minute gifts! Some notes for new beaders: 1) Crimp covers are optional and I wouldn't recommend them as they fray the wire and eventually cut right through spilling beads everywhere and 2) for durability, use lobster clasps that open at the bottom and use closed jump rings to attach, adding the jump ring before feeding the wire ends back through the beads and 3) to make eye glass holders for when we no longer need masks, substitute those two silicone infinity loop ends for the lobster clasps.

I absolutely do not understand why you don’t like pictures of yourself. I don’t know if others create a mental picture of who they listen to but I do and amazingly you match the one my imagination created for you. Thank you for this idea. I bought several grab bags from Potomac Beads and received a pack of lobster claws in each of them that will be perfect for these. I’ll be making some of these up for family and friends.

I know quite a few beautiful, stunning women who don't like to be photographed. The first time I saw Stephanie's photo, I thought she was a model. But that doesn't mean she has to be comfortable with putting her face out there. Also, there are many people (men, women, children) who are a knock-out in person, but....the camera just doesn't love them. We've learned that even gorgeous celebrities can look funky, depending on the camera angle, lighting, etc. I would love to see more of Stephanie; but, quite frankly, in a culture where everyone is displaying their lives, their faces and their other body parts on screens, for everyone to see, I find Stephanie's modesty quite charming. I encourage her to keep doing whatever makes her comfortable. She has built a valuable online community from her amazing talent and gracious generosity -- with apparently only a single camera in a home photography set-up -- so I hope her well-meaning and adoring fans won't expect any more from her :-) Maybe she can start a new channel, and appear there, reporter-style, as she follows her husband around the house to ask what he's doing, and why. Maybe call it "Hubby's Hobbies & Horrors."

Beautiful, Since I'm constantly at the hospital I wear two masks (one to protect me, one to protect others), and a lightweight heavy duty shield (with glasses under that), sometimes feels like my ears are about to "pull off" ! This will make it so much better! This allows for Occasional breaks without putting the mask down on a hospital surface! And, as disinfectant (water/sprays /liquids) cannot be used on the beads, after each use I'll keep them in an isolation unit, (large plastic container at my back door) to eliminate shedding the virus in my home, for a week, before reusing them. Will make a lot of these and thinking my nurses will also want some! Great idea! Thank you! BTW, the (Amazon acquired) heavy duty shields are motorcycle worthy and 1/2 lb. Look great with leather!

Back in March, at the beginning of "mask awareness" I watched at least a dozen DIY mask videos (I can share links to my favorites if anyone is interested) and invested a fair amount of $$ in materials to make masks that stop ~95-99% of the viral particles. What these and other videos emphasized over and over again was the necessity for careful placement and removal of the mask at each wearing. In other words, once the mask is *carefully* removed (touching only the sides, and pulling it away from your face), it should be discarded if it's a disposable mask; or, if it's a cloth mask it should be thoroughly washed in hot soapy water before being put back on the face. Which brings me to my concern about this project. If this is intended for holding the mask *on* -- i.e., to keep it from slipping off when it is initially put on for a single-use wearing -- then thumbs up. But if it is intended to keep the mask handy for putting on, taking off and dangling on the wearer's chest or neck, then putting on again multiple times, without washing -- i.e., several times in a day or during a shopping trip -- then it is actually leading to risky behavior. As the removed mask dangles at the end of the chain, sitting on the wearer's chest or neck, exposed to the air, the *inside* of the mask can pick up the virus. And then that infected inside surface will be re-applied to the wearer's face when she pops it back on. This is not so much of a concern when standing at distances of 10' or more outdoors; but if you're hopping around from one inside environment to another, pulling your mask on and off, touching surfaces without cleaning your hands before touching your mask, it could be a problem.

Agreed! This is for dinner out or an event where you will be eating and talking. Doctor or dentist office where you may need to remove for a minute then put it on again. It’s better than on a table or lap but certainly not perfect 😀

@@BronzeponyBeadedJewelry So far, the only out-of-house eating I have done is at my best friends' house, outside on their deck. I remove my face mask and replace it with this face shield (and keep a safe distance, of course). amzn.to/3lMn4Rb I have also worn this over my mask when shopping in a place where I see many people not wearing masks properly (i.e., under their nose or mouth). It's a good idea to buy several to keep on hand and share with others with whom you may be dining. Another good thing about the plastic face shields is they can be washed and dried immediately when you're visiting socially or out-and-about. But here's a tip: when wearing the shield for eating, remember to bring the food *under* the shield and then up to your mouth. Never fails: every time I wear it I bring the food directly in line to my mouth, bumping into the outside of the shield, and splattering its outside surface with whatever I was trying to eat. It's endlessly amusing to my friends. Who knew a piece of plastic could invoke such hilarity...?

I'm also quite concerned! The reusable mask should be washed in a washing-machine in atleast 60°C/140°F and then held in BOILING water for atleast 5min!! Everytime you have used it! The even bigger risk is that the virus can stay on & inbetween the beads for several DAYS & sometimes WEEKS.. esp when the beads is close to your face & head -bodyheat that's optimal conditions combined with the moisture that comes when we exhale, for the virus!! We get rid off around 59% of your bodyheat trough our heads.. Contaminating other surfaces & your hands by contact.. It's a fun idéa but I'm really sorry to say, it is NOT safe & would not recommend it. I'm a proffessional at aseptics & on how bacteria & viruses behaves & spread.. if you do something like this, the beads should be able to withstand being bolied or washed in pure clorine/bleech.. Viruses mutate quickly, and the covid-19 virus has already done so. And as it often does when it mutates, it gets even more infectious! I'm really sorry to say that I'm concerned & would NOT recommend this at all! For your own safety, this is a really dangerous virus!! Pls stay safe! ❤
@BronzeponyBeadedJewelry

@@ingridakerblom7577 Thank you for the information! Always helpful. I wasn’t suggesting not washing a reusable face mask. This is just for those times when you would have to remove your mask briefly to eat etc. and then put it right back on again. I assume we all machine wash reusable masks on hot and dry them. The beaded chain is detachable so it can be disinfected. Believe me I take this virus very seriously! Please stay well and safe.

@@ingridakerblom7577 I haven't seen any sources claiming the Covid-19 virus survives on surfaces for weeks at a time. Here's a good reference for its viability on different surfaces: www.webmd.com/lung/how-long-covid-19-lives-on-surfaces Also, really hot soapy water and a good scrub have been described as being sufficient for killing the virus. Boiling isn't necessary, although it is the most assured method of killing all virus. Practically speaking, though, most people are not going to do that; so the recommendation is still really hot water, good scrub, followed by a hot dryer or drying in direct sunlight. If people want to make this mask and wear it without removing it, it can be cleaned immediately after removal, and the beads can be wiped down with rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide. If the washed mask is left to sit for 5 days before wearing again, it should be safe. My concern was the constant putting on/pulling off (repeated potential exposure) with no immediate access to cleaning.
