Thank you soooooo Very Much!!! This was the Best wire tutorials I've seen yet! I'm 65 and Finally making my dream of making jewelry come true! I've spent years collecting stones hoping one day to make jewelry but life seems to just get in the way sometimes. Thought I would have the time once my children were raised.. but then started raising my 9 yr old granddaughter when she was 8 months old. Lost my 26 yr old son 6 yrs ago, my sister and last parent in a row, my granddaughter got cancer and we think (Please God) that its finally gone! Then I had to go and have a few strokes! smh! Enough! Not much time left! I'm starting NOW! hahaha!! So silly me.. all along I kept collecting "Pretties" But never got around to buying the Essentials! Wire, tools, etc! SMH!! Now that I'm soooo ready to start, all I can do is watch tutorials and try to organize my stones. sigh.. This helped me a lot. Now I know what wire to buy.. when I'm able to. another sigh.. haha! and I know what tools I'll need. It might be a while longer to be able to afford these things but I'm one Determined G'ma! I'm going to make jewelry if it's the last thing I ever do!! Besides.. I'm also Absolutely Determined to finish raising my granddaughter! She Has to come first! But I figure maybe by the end of the year I should have a few of the items I'll need. A bit at a time. I've watched enough videos that I feel like I could start making Amazing wrapped jewelry as soon as I have wire and a tool in my hand! aaaahahahahahaaa!! Nothing like the Amazingly Beautiful pieces you do.. but the basics anyway. Can't wait!! Thank you again! I'm going for; 18,20,22,26, DS Copper. That should cover what I want to do. I have what tools I'll need. The hard part will be waiting.. Big sigh! haha! Much Love and Big Hugs! Blessings

Thank you for this tutorial! I bought some wire a long time ago that I recently started using to add simple wrappings to small painted bottles I sell but I couldn't figure out what the gauge was and my local art store is sadly depleted at the moment so I couldn't find a good comparison. This is the first tutorial I found that actually shows each of the gauges so I just wanted to say thank you so much for this! It was so helpful in solving my problem.

Gm. Thanks so much, yes ur info helps a lot. I'm a beginner jewelry designer and I usually make earrings with beads with headpins, eyepins, help cords but I want to get into wire wrapping. I made a ring with that dollar tree wire just to see if I could do it. Not the floral wire but the wire they have in the tool, automobile aisle. I also use that wire for certain earrings styles but not ear wires. I did use the floral wire too as a component to another dangle earrings style. But now I want to move up to wire rings and earrings . Ok sorry for being long winded. Lol. Tfs. I appreciate all ur knowledge

I want to make a sterling silver double foxtail about 22 inches long. I want it to be pretty thick. About 5mm in diameter. What gauge of wire would be the best option, and how many feet would i need? I was thinking about 20gauge with half inch rings to start. Another question would be, are half inch rings too small for 20 gauge or will it be ok?
@beadedjewelrydiva2 жыл бұрын
Hi Krod Krod -- I need a little more information from you so I can answer better. When you say double foxtail, do you mean a viking knit weave or a chain maille pattern, or something else? Up to now I've not done any soldered chain, so I can't answer to that.

would a 16 gauge gold-filled wire have the same stiffness/flexibility as a 16 gauge gold-plated wire? if so, which one is would be easier to shape?
@beadedjewelrydiva4 жыл бұрын
Hi! It mostly depends on the metal used as the filler for the gold. In either case, the 16 gauge wire is going to be somewhat difficult to work with, as it's going to be stiffer than copper or sterling silver.The gold-plated wire is going to have a little more of the base metal. In some instances the base metal might be brass, which is very stiff. If I could afford the gold-filled, I'd work with that if I had a special project, but it's very expensive.

Gm Gina, beaded jewelry diva 😁. My question about wire is if making rings and bracelets etc what wire good on the skin.?? I heard don't use aluminum . Is the non tarnish artistic wire best to use . Thanks
@beadedjewelrydiva6 жыл бұрын
Hi Lorraine, they only one I don't like to wear is aluminum, just on general principle. (I do demos with it sometimes, though, since it's inexpensive). Otherwise, for anything that might get a lot of wear, I prefer base copper, sterling or silver-filled. If the item isn't going to get quite as much wear, I'll use the coated copper wire -- I like colors, LOL. Hope this helps! :)

Wire gauge is a measurement of wire diameter. This determines the amount of electric current the wire can safely carry, as well as its electrical resistance and weight.

Hi Yogita, I get most of my copper wire from monsterslayer.com -- for the plain copper wire, they have the best prices (and I use a lot of copper wire, LOL). For any colored wire, I use Parawire or Artistic Wire, and I tend to get these on either Amazon or through fusionbeads.com -- hope this helps!

Why didn't you SHOW what each gauge is used for? The terminology you used may not be familiar to noobs. "This is good for so and so" - well, what is the "so and so"? SHOW it - after all, you're showing VIDEO, you're not on radio.
