This is an instructional video on how to make beaded slipper tops on moose skin. The flower pattern used was from the Athabascan Beadwork Patterns, collected by the late Catherine Attla of Huslia, Alaska.

Your idea of embellishing these ready made moccasins is appealing to me. It is a challenge for me to do the decorative beadwork alone. Great instructions and skill.

Beautiful! Thank you, Angela! Here's a tip I learned in tole painting: get a sheet of graphite paper (not carbon paper) and lay it on the leather, then trace your flower pattern on with one of those little tools with a little wheel with spikes on it (used to trace patterns in sewing clothing) -- then, you can outline the grapite image again with your pen and save a lot of time cutting-out the pattern. Wonderful beading; thank you!

Thank You Very Much for putting up this video. My wife & new son are Myaamia & I have recently started working w/ leather & hides but thinking/wanting to decorate some of the things I've been making but wasn't sure where to start. Thx for giving me a first lesson in beading to help us get ready for tiny toys in a few yrs.

Nya:Weh for sharing your tips and tricks. These are things a person with years of knowledge would know ans saves us time. I will be sure to pass them on to my babies while they watch me make their moccasins from scratch! Lots of love can be seen in your work. Amazing job! ☺

Thank you. I have drawing my flowers free hand. I like the way you made your pattern. I usually don't use paper on the back but I have some floopy leather that I want yo bead on. I usually bead on 3 to 5 oz moose that is stiffer. I use the one needle and two needle stitch. One needle on thick leather stiff leather and two needle on more floppy materials. Great idea for ready made moccasins.

This is a beautifully done video. How can someone get a copy of the pattern book you show? I am working on an Athabascan Beading unit for teachers in rural Alaska and would love to include it as a resource. Thank you.

Sometimes you can get pattern books at booths where there are Native artists. You may also find them in gift shops like the Morris Thompson Cultural Center Fairbanks. Beads & Things in Fairbanks has a copy too.

I have never beaded on leather before, what do you do with the paper on the back when you are done?
