I've beaded with peyote a lot, but I've steered clear from using patterns for almost as long as this tutorial has been available. That is until now. I've fallen for a gorgeous classic plaid which definitely requires that I follow the pattern. Your tutorial is incredibly thorough and easy to understand. I was thinking about using a ruler to guide my eyes, just like I do for counted cross-stitch, but I think I'll use your idea of cutting along the "sticky outie" beads so as to fully cover the row I just did. However, to make it even easier, I'm going to use cardstock that is a contrasting color from the pattern. For me, with your mask being white, it's still confusing to me because the odd numbered rows are white. Otherwise, it's a great idea! Now that I've watched your tutorial, I'm even more excited to bead the afore mentioned plaid. Lastly, I really like the idea of numbering the rows. Thank you so much!

Another option is to use those magnetic pattern holders that knitters use. A magnetic strip goes across and below the line you are on. They also have magnifiers available that go across the line. I also do intricate counted cross stitch and they come in handy for that as well. They're great for anything with which a chart graph is used.

I am having a hard time learning 2 drop peyote. I bought a pattern and downloaded it. I use an iPad for everything, so I zoomed the graft picture and took a picture of it. I then went to my photos and opened the graft and chose edit, clicked on the pen icon and could ten write right on the graft to cross out the beads I had done. This works great when you don’t have a printer like me. Would work on any Mac iOS device.

Hi my beautiful Jill, first thank you so much for all your videos, you inspire me so much, the only question i have left is how to pick the same row when the pattern starts right in the edge, I mean, this example the first 2 rows starts with just white beds, but if row 1 and 2 already has pattern and more than 2 colors how we do??? ... many hugs and thank youuuu 💖💖

Jill, the written instructions are wonderful if you are working either a square or a rectangle. If you are following the pattern for a more of an organic shape where the outline goes in and out, how is that tackled by the written instructions?

So since this is in two colors....red and white....and it's even count...for this pattern....how do you pick up the beads? 2 red then white red white ect.? until you have 10 beads on? Is this how this works? In a zig-zag at first? I really want to learn to do this. I can do the peyote stitch BUT I don't know how to get the colors to come out right. Oy vey! Do you have another link that may help me more to understand how to pick up the beads? Thank you so much for the great videos.

Oh Jill - you are wise beyond words!! First this is explains flat peyote perfectly going L to right and back R to left and how to mark off your rows. Absolutely fantastic!! Here is my question oh wise one...in the PWAT graph charts and word charts there is always a blank square (or 2) at the right side of each pattern. Bethel (one of the moderators on the Facebook page for PWAT-not crochet gave me a wonderful tip on marking my graph with a P for the Peak side and marking with a V for the Valley side (which is usually your turn-around valley turn) so marking with a P or a V also helps tremendously !! So because you are SO INCREDIBLY CREATIVE and TALENTED and A FANTASTIC TEACHER...any chance you can go over reading a PWAT pattern (not a one color/one or two seam tutorial) but an ACTUAL TUTORIAL reading a PWAT pattern bracelet/necklace?!?! Every PWAT graph pattern I’ve seen so far has one (and sometimes 2) blank squares on the far right that I am assuming is the ‘turn around’ “valley” stitch and I’m also assuming (even tho we turn around here and go back thru the last bead we added) that no other bead is needed here and just to continue up the Peyote side according to the graph. Is this the correct way of reading these patterns?? You and a couple of others have clearly demonstrated how to do Gerlindes PWAT turn around stitch but no one has shown us how to read these pattern graphs correctly. Any chance I can talk you into doing a tutorial on how to READ a PWAT (with a pattern) graph...?!?! Pretty please - with huge hugs & kisses thrown in for good measure?? I got to meet both YOU and MAMA JUNE at last years Bead and Button Show (in Milwaukee) and I got HUGE HUGS and wonderful inspiration from you both!! As well as terrific selfies with y’all!!! Please please Jill - teach us how to properly read a PWAT graph pattern. Would greatly appreciate it more than words could say!! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful creativity and fantastic tutorials with all of us. You are one hell of a beader and one of the BEST TEACHERS in the WORLD...!!!!!! Please help and thank you from the bottom of my heart...😘💖😘💖😘💖😘💖

I just found your video today (6.7.21) searching for Peyote instructions. I see this video was posted in 2013. I'm interested in the bracelet on the far left side...the violets. Is there a pattern still available?? Great video, btw...it cleared up alot of questions. Thanks.
