Yeah its due to Beagles quite essentially being a form of hound, they live for smells literally so they'll roll around in it, their ears are apparently perfect for it!

Because dogs mainly beagles love sniffing and want to keep smells on them to keep smelling its kind of like pictures on our phones for us, and when you clean them and basically delete everything they have collected is annoying for them, and they rub themselves to dry off and gather a quick smell quickly

I used to have a cockapoo, and whenever I gave him a bath he would act totally traumatized. I would dry him off with a towel, and then he'd go lie on the sofa and I'd wrap him in a blanket and he would lay there for the rest of the day, looking tragic and feeble.

They wanna be smelly lmao. Stinking like dirt, poop and anything else helps cover their own smell so they can hunt and avoid predators better. Seawater is nice and stinky so they don't mind. All dogs I ever meet or trained have done this if they get water in their ears or if their ears need a clean. Hence why if you said he had a bath most likely has gotten water in there.

We never had a dog that acted up about being wet until our youngest came along. From the first bath she had you would have thought we bathed her in lye she carried on so much about being wet - pretty much doing what Oliver does, rubbing on carpet, or on the bed spread or the couch... We actually brought it up with the vet because we thought maybe we were doing something wrong and it was actually irritating her and she was hurting. The vet said he didn't have a good answer about why some dogs act like this or how to make it better unless we could figure out something that would be distracting to keep her from carrying on so. Distraction failed miserably until my daughter had the die that she looked like she was trying to wrap up in the rung. We started giving her large towels and blankets and rolling her up in them as she would try rubbing the water off. She actually got the hang of it and now has a favorite after bath chenille throw we spread across the floor for her outside the bathroom and she throws herself down on it and grabs one corner in her mouth and starts rolling herself up in it to get dry. If you do this it requires monitoring cause they can get really 'burrito-ed' into the blanket and you don't want them to get tangled but it really seems to help by letting them roll up in something that dried them off in this way.

I love beagles.... we have had 3 in my life and all have had that howling bark... they are so sassy
