Back in 1979 I worked at Beamish, when it had only been open a relatively few years. It's astonishing to see just how much it's grown since. The late Frank Atkinson, the first director of the museum was a true visionary and a really nice guy to boot. Well done everyone who works, and has worked there.

Having grown up in a newly built house in the 1950s, this place needs some prefabs. We had a whole estate of them behind our house which were demolished in the 60s.

OMG that is so good. I wasn't sure how well they'd imagine a 1950s home, but the attention to detail is spot on - right down to the concrete roads and bedding. The house looks just like how I remember my grandparents home in the mid 70s (their house was new in the 1950s and I guess they hadn't updated their decor). Your shot walking around the house was almost like I was back at my grans in the summer of '76.

I WAS BORN IN 1945 IN A PREFAB IN SUNDERLAND . MY FAMILY MOVED TO PENNYWELL. I REALLY ENJOYED THE 1950S OPENING . MY PARENTS DID NOT HAVE MUCH FURNITURE AS SHOWN ON THE TOWN OPENING.

I was born in 1951 and that house took me back to my childhood . We had that kitchen sink and washer. Bedroom was just like my late parents but we didn't have flying ducks on wall. Born and bred in County Durham

Can remember so much of this stuff. I lived in Stone Row, Denton Burn, now part of Newcastle. All colliery owned houses. I just about used all this stuff. Great times. I was born in 1947.

Are you watching all you young people, this is what ordinary working people with a little effort saving for a small deposit, rent or buy could afford. You should not accept your generations lot and question everything you have been told and taught.
@doobiedootwo3517
@doobiedootwo3517 Жыл бұрын
…with a little effort…. Is somewhat misleading. Note that generation did not routinely run cars, did not have holidays, certainly not foreign holidays, did not have mobilephones / probably couldnt afford a landline, unlikely to have had a tv. All the income would have gone on food, fuel and paying the mortgage - no meals out, no holidays, no cars ( never mind a new car every few years ). Not saying todays youngters dont have a tough time getting on the housing ladder but it is by no means as simple as you imply.

@@doobiedootwo3517 it's quite difficult compare. Apples and oranges. For what its worth I never go on holiday, or eat out very much. That said I can remember people being hungry and interest rates squeezing people to the last penny in the 1980's. When house prices were most affordable it was because most couldn't comprehend maintaining them.

How bizarre. There's a theme park of 1880's stuff near me built in the 1960's so I guess it makes sense now we'd had a 1950's themepark built in the 2020's. Still seems odd though. Don't personally have much affection for the plastic fantastic formica topped dream but horses for courses.

The filming was great, but unless you composed that, abnoxious, muzak type soundtrack, which was completely unnecessary, there was no need for it and would have been much better with the natural background noises .
