80's the tramway only went from main entrance to edge of village it did not do a full circuit like it does now & the standard gauge was just being built as public were allowed to pull levers in signal box, back then the museum was just starting to grow as the latest add on was the steam driven winder & the drift didn't go very far into the hillside, however this will be the only place left for our children's generation to see how life was when we had an industry that worked below ground

AngliscSaxon Beamish Museum, North East England. A wonderfully nostalgic day out with loads to see and do. I've visited many times and never been disappointed.

Beamish, County Durham, is my favourite open air museum but Blists Hill (near Telford) and the Black Country Living Museum (Dudley) are also excellent. This website has a useful check list of all such places. smudgedpostcard.com/uk-open-air-museums/
