praman0: Do you think I should continue with this effort of putting up these videos on the net. What other topics do you feel you may need covered in Statics and Dynamics? Sivakumar

in the image at 40:43, why isn't the shear force pointing downwards if the face is to the left.

Prof. Siva Kumar I just wanted to know why at 25.49 is it -4P/3 and not +4P/3 when it is pointing in the upwards direction when x is also point in the +x axis direction.
@harimyoldpal7 жыл бұрын
For static equilibrium condition, the shear force that was assumed to be along +ve y direction turns out to be -ve.Hence he has written -4P/3, you may as well denote the shear force downwards(along -ve Y-axis )and replace -4P/3 with a positive value of the same magnitude. Hope it helps :)

sir in the very first example the way you calculated the bending moment is very confusing as the sign convention which u have followed is totally different from the one which u have told earlier.

how is it one dimensional?
@sittoonagesh66687 жыл бұрын
Professor is talking about beam which is considered as 1D element. To make you clear, here only length along x is dominating over other two lengths (which are along y and z). Moreover, you can assume a curvilinear element as 1D for analysis as well. So now questions arise, what are the 2D adn 3D structures or elements. Suppose you are interested to solve a problem of plate (in which two dimensions are dominated over third) can be considered as 2D element or structure. And the last type of structures are 3D (all the dimensions are dominated), for instance, lathe machine, bike, bridge etc. Hope that this helps. Write us again for further clarification.
