We climbed the hill in 1969 in a 414 moly tube chassis VW powered mid-engine buggy a 225 hp 2182 VW roller crank twin 48 IDA Webber carbs can hand built 4" paddle tires built on 12" x 16" M&H Racemaster slicks carcasses. There were few trails on the hill then. We could stop mid way and continue over the top. Most buggies only made the trip down. The next summer we weren't the only buggy, but still the fastest. Our engine was blueprinted and dyno tuned. She was an angry little mill.

This is NOT the slide! The slide is further back in the alpine area surrounded by trees and is named so because of the sandy,decomposed rock of the slope. You go up the "Saddle" and drop down the back; shut the engine off, put it in 1st gear, step off to one side, dig your feet in, ride the front brake and "Slide" down the slope and head for the spring!

Going up it since the tree fell is great. This is probably the easiest hill out there in the video

Loved going up there in the mid 90s. We would park at a cabin that was owned by a man named Mick. He was an older person that mentored Bob Hannah when Bob was younger. In fact Bob's 1976 Detroit supercross 1st place trophy was on a shelf in an outdoor patio. My friends were friends of Micks so we were allowed to be there.Awesome place, the trails, the springs, the slide, the climbs. We've come across wild horses a few times and rode in purple snow about 3 inches thick for miles on the ridges. Also don't go near the hermits down in one of the eastern canyons , they shoot at you, not kidding. Magical place. Glad me and my buddies got to experience it.
