This channel is the most underrated enduro channel on KZbin. Btw, can we get a review on that dog that runs with you in some of these videos?? Feel free to thank me in tires when the video gets a million views and thousands of subs for you.

I'm guessing the one dislike so far is from someone who sits going downhill :-)

These are excellent videos, very detailed and relevant. I had my first big down hill training with Tristan Hart in September 19. Things went wrong right away as I almost immediately sat down. Then my body slid down to the tank at which point my rear wheel started going over my head. It was all down hill from there (literally) which culminated in taking out Tristan and braking a finger in my left hand. It’s so un-intuitive to stand on very steep drops.

Been waiting for a good steep downhill vid and this is just the ticket. Engine off But still feather clutch, why have I not thought of that before!! 💪 Brilliant

This is by far the best video about going downhills that I have found in you tube, thank you for your explanation, it is so clear and well explained, I'm 37 years old and started riding dirt bikes a year and a half ago and downhills are a big problem for me, I guess starting at my age is making it more difficult, I'm gonna start practicing what you're saying, thank you so much for the information.

Of all the different situations one can get into dirtbiking, downhills, especially sustained steep ones, wear me and and give me armpump more than any other feature during a typical enduro. It's so hard to convince yourself to stand up on extreme downhills. Thanks for the tips. I need lots more practice downhill

Next time grip the bike with your knees, and try to relax your arms. Practice this on easy downhills, practice practice practice!

Awesome video as always! Just thought I would add a trick I use for when it's so steep you are gaining speed no matter what you do, like a long sand cliff. I find when the pucker factor goes way up and there is no slowing down it's possible to not notice that either the front or rear brakes are locking up. I intentionally pump the brakes off and on quick (ABS style) just to make sure I'm not death-gripping the tires into a lockout. Thanks for the great content Rich, I always look forward to these videos!

Thats a great tip! Slipping the clutch also helps give that ABS feel!

very good explanation ! I did the wrong approach before : beginning with some speed ! Now I do what you advise : I force my mind to order my body to go down as slow as possible !! And through that, I gain so much confidence and pleasure ! It a reverse race : be the slowest one of the down hill ! And if you thnk about it, even in a race, how much time do you lose compared to going mad down ? 5 sec ? 10 ? But with fun and no injury, because craches down hill are much more violent, even with no speed !! I like as well your advise on the front break : concentrate on the feeling of it, you gain precision and control ! Very good explanations always thanks Rich !

Hi. I just had one experience riding downhill. Steep grassy downhill. When I used the rear brake my tail whipped. Actually I clutched too to keep the engine on. So I dropped to the ground to keep from falling downhill. Friends told me to not use the clutch when going downhill.

Hey I have a question what do you do on extreme small long and steep hills I had to deal with a couple today and I crashed my brains I’m looking around for the best tips I can get my dad who’s a veteran rider says to try and keep your bike steady and feather the front brake these videos have helped me a lot.

The steeper the down hill the easier the rear brake locks up. Any tips on how to keep your back break from locking up as much as possible? Have you any experimented with different break pad materials to see which one works best? Most break pad reviews only talk about maximum stopping power when you have maximum traction but how about what works best when you have minimum traction, IE extreme downhill?

I love hard downhills, but the one I haven't got a good technique for is this: going sidehill on a very steep downhill, upcoming hairpin turn is almost 180 degrees to the right, the radius of the turn is smaller than the turning radius of the bike. The slope is too steep to lock the rear wheel going into the corner to try to rotate it around, as it just causes the rear wheel to slide downhill before entering the corner. The hill is so steep I can't stop and put my right foot down and try to rotate the bike around the locked front wheel. Suggestions? Thanks
@CommieHunter74 жыл бұрын
That's how I like to approach it, but I cross over from "as slow as you can" to 'too much slowing' cause I didn't quite feel the front end slip. That's what gets me into trouble
@smeggysmeg28373 жыл бұрын
question…I ride in so cal and there’s some very steep sandy downhills (some with deep sand), sometimes with turns, that give me the most problems. If I brake the bike gets super squirrelly and the front wants to tuck (even without locking up). If I let off I gain too much momentum even with engine braking and these descents are too steep and long to rely on engine braking alone. there’s one or two black diamond descents at rowher flats that give me trouble every time and Im at a loss for what techniques to try to improve on them. Have tried feathering both brakes, using rear only, riding it with the engine off etc etc. But Im at a loss. Young guy I rode with just bombs it fast but my feeling with descents in general is take it slow, and I don’t heal like a 20 year old. Any thoughts?

Dear Rich ! can I place an order ??!! Which bar height do you recommend, according to our style, level, and size ? I use a 35 mm bar spacer on my Sherco 300 (I am 5,9 feet tall) because otherwise I feel some back pain. I red David Knight (UK), who is ver tall, always ride low bars, even in hard enduro pf course. whats your advice please ? And which size for the front tire, especially for going...down hill !!?? many thanks !! 90/90 or 120/80 ?

Curious to know why the bike gets shut off during long steep descents? I noticed guys doing that this weekend during erzberg. Thanks rich!
@IRCTireUSAMoto2 жыл бұрын
First it’s for safety. When you are on a really steep descent if you loose the bike, the throttle can go wide open and really cause problems. Second you can use the natural compression of the engine to assist with braking. Even with the bike off they still drag the clutch to keep the wheel slightly turning rather than locking.

The scariest bit is knowing that you cant stop mid way... So yes, as slow as you can, always.. there's plenti of room to brake and stop once you're down there 😅😅

Do these tips apply to both two stroke and four stroke bikes? since the engine breaking applies more toward a four stroke.
